Price Point for the Fuji Voigtlander 667

At what price point, won't you buy the new and very exciting Fuji / Voigtlander 667.

I know this is all speculation, but I suspect there are people watching the threads here and on APUG about this camera.

Obviously we want it made, but...

( And yes this has been done but now that we have more info and have better pictures )

Between $1000/1500 USD sounds reasonable to me, more than that, it's just ridiculous.

It would depend on lots of things. There's a lot you can currently get for $1500 bucks on the used market. It would take one hell of a lens on that thing to make me want to shell out that much. However, it it turns out that the camera weighs little and has a fast and sharp lens, I would probably wind up getting it. Otherwise, I would stick w/ my trusty old 645Zi as a light medium format camera.

I am headed to Taiwan via Japan at the first of the year and hope to run into this unicorn. But, I think that if you think that the new fuji is going to come out with a price tag of around 1000 to 1500 you are going to be sorely disappointed. Don't get me wrong if it does come out at 1500, I snatch it up without a blink. With the prices of used Mamiya 7II's still in the same price range, I think your looking at at least 2000-2500 on the conservative side.

Let us see what Fuji says. They are the ones who will be calculating the amortization of the engineering and design costs over the expected production and sale period.

If they are also looking at their existing investment in 120-220 / 70 mm film production equipment, there might be some incentive to price the camera with a view to keeping their film production going for a while longer. Where do they really make their profit? From selling the equipment on a "one time sale" basis, or do they make it over the long haul from the sale of the film to feed the camera? My guess is that it is probably the latter.

A "price point" is something different, and relates to optimum prices on a demand curve.

Yup, my thinking as well, and I'd just keep using my Perkeo II as the Pocket'Blad, but for around $1200, I'd trade up.

This is a pretty competitive market, so I figure this new baby needs to come in at less than 1K. At this price point they should be able to move a good production run.

I reckon I'd pay about $750 for it, based solely on its personal usefulness to me. I have only ever paid that much for a camera once in my life, and it was a steal at $750 (a Rolleiwide in near mint condition). Sounds like a sweet camera, though, and I might pay more if some magic dough falls my way.
