I was recently looking through the FreeStylePhoto website, and was thinking about ordering some more paper. I was kind of shocked to see a rather large price increase for the Fotokemika papers. The price hike was around $12 for 8x10 and 11x14.

Since I've been working with this paper I began to like it and want to continue using it in the future. But as I saw it as a good value in the past, now its up there in prices with other papers.

Now I realize that fuel prices are increasing, and inflation has its effects on prices, but this seems like a rather steep price increase in a short period of time.

Is a 32% increase really justified?

Hi, according to Fotoimpex, Germany the silver prices went up.
cheers

not just silver but Copper too. This past January as an example copper for a 300 foot roll of 6 guage wire was $32. In March it was $81. By April it was $119. and 2 weeks after that it was $173. The spot market had it go down 34% but stores raised it recently another 10% despite the decrease on their end.

The price for 10 foot lengths of copper pipe at the home centers blew me away when I saw them recently. I am putting in a new hot water tank for the darkroom and the cost for plumbing is going to be steep. The prices were double from the last time I bought some.

And the dollar is down too, which is part of the reason why the price hike is so great over there.

It's not half as bad here.

Not to mention that prices were just too low to sustain the factory to begin with and there have been alerts about price increases for some time.

If all of us are worried that film and paper will disappaer in a shrinking market we shouldn't wine about priceincreases. Let manufacturers up their prices and let them make a healthy profit. That's the way to ensure availability in the future.

It's better to say that "prices increase from fotokemika's distributors"
Only the prices from shop in US,UK and germany went up . have a look to the prices in croatia ;-)
Prices increase is not a fatality, just don't buy in this populars shops .
There is no money bonus for Fotokemika in this history and it does not help the argentic market .

I emailed FreeStylePhoto today to inquire about the price increase. They said it was a result of Fotokemika increasing prices for them, and they had to pass along the increase.

They also cited the increased prices of silver and petroleum as a source for the increase.

I'm happy with the response I received from FreeStylePhoto, and I will keep doing business with them. I think both companies offer a great service, and am happy they are continuing to support the community.

If Freestyle is paying Fotokemika in US dollars, then there may well have been a price increase, given the depreciation of the US dollar over the last few months.

Few months?

When Clinton left office, you could buy a euro for about 91 cents US. Now it's around $1.33.

As I live in France and part of my income is in US dollars, this has really hurt. The Indian rupee has fared better.

Cheers,

Roger.

It's the voice from the temple's merchant ;-)))))))

A-HA!!! The old Kodak game. I remember in the 80s when I was doing tons of printing. Every time silver went up - Kodak's prices went up proportionally, despite the fact that the silver content was only a small fraction of their paper product. But then when they went back down, sometimes WAY down, they'd keep the paper at the same elevated price until the next hike. But hey, that's the game I guess.
