I thought, just for kicks, of putting one of my old black and white prints up in the gallery. I have just an ordinary inexpensive HP printer/scanner. Do you all think it worth trying with such a primitive outfit? And if so, how do I put the jpeg(?) file up on the gallery? Thanks in advance for help and suggestions.

The scanner will likely be just fine. Your scanned image will need to be resized to approx. 650 pixels on the long side, saved and uploaded as a jpeg. The step by step instructions in the gallery upload site are pretty easy to follow. Give it a whirl.

Is that HP an All-In-One unit? I've a new Apple Mini-Mac
coming soon and am considering an All-In-One to go with
it. I'd also like to post some photos and wish to do them
justice. Is there such a thing as a Quality All ... ? Dan

Since you are posting to a low quality medium don't get too hooked up on "quality scans". I use an (in digital terms) elderly Canon D2400 and the results view quite well; at least I think so.

Until very recently I too was using an old Canon D2400 and most of the time the scans were reasonable enough for the gallery. The only problem was the lack of dynamic range which tended to render shadow areas as black. Go for it, your images can still inspire even if the scan's not perfect.

As others have stated, the All-in-one will probably be adequate for site posting. The real question is whether you need or want the other 2 functions (printing and faxing, or copying). The same money might buy a better scanner dedicated only to scanning, which might make better files for other uses.

We need to keep our voices down, as we are coming dangerously close to having a d____al thread. I feel guilty and inappropriate already.

Likely the wrong Forum but the OP is interested in
posting his non d____al photos. Buy any Mac and
with it an AIO or other printer and take $100 off
the price. So I've been shopping their selection.

Two look very good; both Canons. The MP520 and
the MP530; the later with two side printing, ADF, and
Fax. After rebate the 520 is $50, the 530 is $80. Both
are highly recommended; the 530 earns all excellents
and the 520 is close behind. Which way to go? Does
any body Fax? By the pound the 530 is way ahead;
16lbs vs 28lbs for the 530. Apple pays the S&H.
Shop Apples Big Deals if interested. Dan

I've got one of those all-in-ones too, a HP "Photosmart" C4380. It scans well enough for web use, and has the added advantage of being wireless.

So, John, have you uploaded some pics yet?

BTW: I too am a regular neg/chrome uploader.

Just "keep the faith" as to the "source" of your photo and upload to your heart's content!

To my way of thinking - the more, the merrier!
