Postcard Exchange Round 66 Comments and Feedback

I receved "End Of Season" by @pamphoto - a group of leafless trees is preparing for winter, which is approaching from the mountains in the background, where snow already lies in places. Thank you for the postcard; it arrived on the day it finally started snowing here after a long time.

Today, I also finished my own postcards, went to the main post office downtown, and sent them all off. I’m glad I won’t be entering 2026 with an unfinished task.

I wish all the photographers here, and especially those participating in the Postcard Exchange, all the best for the upcoming year 2026—good light, cheap films, and reliable gear in your camera bags

"Play Rope #10" by Taurabon is quite interesting. This image "works" in all orientations. It is nicely exposed and printed. Well done. I have never heard of the Fuji GW680III, what format film does it use?
"Ridge Study" from pamphoto gives a lot for the viewer to see, but is not too cluttered. I like how you layered the bridges in this image. Nicely exposed to keep both shadow and highlight in control.
"Connemara, Ireland" from bedrof is a testament to the Irish love of cycling. I love the stamps you used to post this to the US.
"Home for Two" from jvo is a sad testament to out times. This image is very disturbing to me on several levels. The dark clouds make the images stronger.
"Empty Church" by Don_ih is a beautiful portrait of a welcoming church. One can visualize a face in the windows and vestibule.
The cyanotype (my favorite alt process) from rduraoc was a joy to see in my mailbox. I am glad that you coated you own paper (a challenge in itself). I am curious how a negative shared across the Atlantic Ocean (Canada and Belgium).

OOPS! Added comment from Round 65 tread:
An untitled card from mshchem of a mailbox and sign advertising duck and chicken eggs for sale. I like the composition. Nicely exposed and printed.

Thank you fro sharing your work.

I received "Rope Play" from taurabon yesterday...a beautiful print!
Elegant design and execution, bravo!

At the end of last year, I received another beautiful postcard from Japan, @Taurabon PLAY ROPE #10. It is one of my favorites in this round. Beautifully exposed and printed. The longer I look at the photograph, the deeper I immerse myself in the scenery.

Although I may sit out the upcoming round (probably won't, though), I'm wondering if @George Nova Scotia is going to post a new sign-up this month?

I received two nice hand printed cards today. First is FilmIsCheap's "A Robin's Snack". It looks like an apple on a picnic table. The apple has definitely been munched on (pecked at?). Nice composition, nice shadow. This one has a 3/8 inch postal souvenir on it ... . And secon is Taurabon's "Play Rope #10". A random pattern created by dropping a rope. The bright white rope is on some grass or foliage, and it looks like asphalt surrounding the grass. Very clever shot.

And both cards are beautifully printed. Thanks Amanda, thanks Kaoru!

I imagine that when RPPCs were popular around 120 to 100 years ago too, people were also looking forward to receiving them like this.
@mfohl : The stone silo and the white painted shed form a geometric motif that composes the picture. The framing is superb.
@drpsilver : It must be incredibly exciting to come across such a unique motif while walking along a mountain path. I also enjoyed the designs on the stamps.
@hwv : The handrails that make up the screen are a mix of fact and fiction, making this work seem like a trick. The Olympus XA is very light and is one of my favorite cameras.
@rduraoc : The dry characteristics of cyanotype are fully displayed. It's a technique I'd like to try someday.
@AnselMortensen : It was like a scene straight out of a lighting technology textbook. I couldn't help but open the pages of "GRAPHIC GRAFLEX PHOTOGRAPHY" from the 1940s.
@Don_ih : The electrical wiring and rain gutters are installed as if they have no interest in the symmetry of the church. It is a simple but impressive sight.
@jvo : This print has high contrast and beautiful gradation. There is a lot of information on the screen, but it is well-framed and uncluttered.
@Michael Howard : This photo gives the impression of looking at the surface of the Earth in the same state as it has been since ancient times. The cross section of the strata visible on the mountain surface is also dynamic.

I received a beautiful print from @Taurabon. "Play Rope #10" photograph of an art work . Luscious print on Forte Polywarmtone RC-G
One of the Best. Thanks so much!

I got @Ajven 's "Brno", a beautiful, hand-written postcard - thank you for that.

I also got @FilmIsCheap 's "A Robin's Snack" which, beyond the nice story behind it, got scuffed right in the middle of the apple, somewhere during its journey across the Atlantic.

Along with the stamps and the privilege of receiving hand-written messages, I think that the bruises of transport add a lot to the attractiveness of the PCX experience.

The sign up thread for the next round is now active. Please join in, I'm very sorry for the delay.

"Connemara, Ireland" from bedrof is a testament to the Irish love of cycling. I love the stamps you used to post this to the US.
Thanks!
I considered this set of stamps to be ideal for the postcard exchanges of 2025

A few cards came in just before the holiday rush:

A cyanotype from rduraoc made from a negative from Don_ih. I thought this came out very nicely in cyanotype. Also happy to note that the postcard made the trip from Belgium in excellent condition.

Home for Two from JVO which depicts a church flanked by two individuals who represent a far-too-common sight across our nation these days.

Plato Iowa from mshchem shows where to get free Chicken and Duck eggs! Would be a long drive for me, but it’s nice to know that kind of thing still exists.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

-Jim

I received "PLAY ROPE #10" by @Taurabon - A very playful shot with a superb background that beautifully frames the pattern made by the rope. I imagine everyone who receives this postcard does the same as I did—following the line of rope from one end to another, like a mouse searching for a path through a maze. Thank you for this excellently crafted postcard.

I also received the Play Rope #10 card from @Taurabon . I like it! I like photos of rope and string for some reason. Perhaps I'm part cat? (I don't think I am.) It's so neat and disorganized at the same time.

While I did follow the line from one end to the other, I was actually looking to see how you should pick it up without tangling it. I've wound up too many extension cords....

I received @FilmIsCheap 's "A Robin's Snack" postcard in perfect condition. Very interesting composition. The shape of apple shadow looks like a tulip flower. I also appreciate handmade postcard and the story behind picture. Thank you for the postcard!

I also received the card from @FilmIsCheap - it reminds me of an apple tree I used to have. It would get about five little apples that would get no bigger than a walnut - coincidentally, a walnut tree's branches towered above it. The apples would get no bigger than a walnut because, once they got that big, the army of black squirrels would pull them off the tree, take one bite, then throw them on the ground. I don't know if they hate apples or got confused by the similarity with the walnuts. But it never grew anything any bigger.

Then there was a plague of gypsy moths - which started out and ended as a plague of caterpillars. Two years of that basically killed the apple tree.

Thanks for the card. Is this the Ilford MGV that's already at postcard size (4x6) or did you cut it down. The print is very good.

Today I got Mike Hayslett's "Duck and Chicken eggs for sale", which probably crossed the Atlantic swimming: posted on the 16th December, arriving today...

Received a very nice card from Ajven today. "Brno", a photo of a railway station and cathedral in the background, and the remains of industrial buildings in the foreground. Apparently, Brno was the "Moravian Manchester" for its textile factories. Thanks for the nice photo and the nice bit of history Ivan.

Received @Ajven great print  Brno . Beautiful fiber print showing the history of area. I really appreciate the subject. Great printing! Thanks

Beautiful print from @Ajen BRNO. Love the Fomabrom 141 N Chamois paper. The perfect paper choice. Makes me want to try it. Thank you.

Received Duck and Chicken Eggs For Sale from @mshchem - an eggcellent print (oh my...). You may want to include a bit of info next time, though. Without the envelope, I'll need to write your name on the back of the card. .... I suppose I could reuse it, though.

Took over a month to get here. You're not even that far away.
