The big 5 0. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. It's May and that means it time to sign up for this round of the postcard exchange. Feel free to dig into your archive or try some table top photography if you have been in lockdown.

We already have a new member from Malta, now's the time join us for Round 50.

OK, now the standard text, but please read on:

There are links to the FAQs and an Introduction in my signature at the bottom.

As in the previous rounds, please signup by starting a conversation with me (used to be called PM) containing your full name, address (including the country - this is an international exchange) and the number of cards you are able to send or say maximum for the maximum possible number of cards. You can also choose "ALL" you will still only receive the MAX number of cards but you will receive the complete list so you can share your work with everyone if you choose.

As in the previous rounds, if you have been in the exchange for the last couple rounds and if your address is the same, you can sign on just with giving the number of cards here in the thread. No PM needed in this case.

Important! As in the previous rounds I will post lists of participants in this thread every once in a while. If you signed in (or if you think so) please come back to this thread and check if your name is on the list. If the name should be on the list but is not, then let me know. Once the address lists are sent out early in February I can not do any changes. And also check for the number of cards behind your name.

There are a couple threads with an introduction and FAQs (check the links in my sig). Just send me a PM or ask here if you have any questions.

Please read on:

As in the previous rounds, not all participants have been able to send out the cards. For whatever reasons, if you have not fulfilled your last rounds commitment, send your cards before you sign in for this round. Just be fair. (and drop a note in the last round comments to let us know you are okay)

And as in the previous rounds, I am looking forward to this round.

Now for those new to the postcard exchange, here is how it all works out.

First: It is fun!

Second: When registration is over, I will prepare address lists which I will send to the participants. You will have to send a card to every address on that list and you should receive back a card from everyone on that list. So if you join in for e.g. 20 cards you will have to send 20 cards and you should receive 20 cards back.

Third: Did I mention that it is fun? Where else can you receive cards from all over the world, different styles, different methods, different papers, and more.

I've been frantically working in the darkroom (now that it's been cleaned up and reorganised) trying to catch up on my backlog of work and Photrio commitments - the postcard exchange is a high priority so will hopefully get my outstanding cards printed this weekend. So...not signing up yet, but I will definitely do so soon!

George:

I have been looking forward to this round for some time - the BIG 50. I am in for the MAX. Same address as previous PCX rounds.

It has been a long time since Round #12 (my first). This is going to be fun!

Regards,
Darwin (drpsilver)

P.S. Black Dog: I to remember "Hawaii 5 0", the band Ventures only hit, and Jack Lord as the lead character. Danno was a great supporting character.

Last time was my first and it was fun. Talking about it made some of my friends that only shoot digital a bit jealous. I'll stick to 10 one more time.

It’s been a while for me but I’d like to join in again. Put me in for 20 or 25, whatever is easier for you to match up with the rest. PM on its way.

The Big 50 is here! What an achievement for the organisers and participants to reach this point!

Sign me up for 30! After the last exchange I'm hooked.

Hello all,

This sounds like an interesting endeavor.

However, I am not sure that I qualify. Thus my post.

All my exposures are made digitally these days. However, much of my printing is done in the dimroom... cyanotypes mainly and probably what I would use for this exchange. May I participate?

While I am asking... how many folks typically participate in a postcard exchange?

Thanks,

Sorry to say but technically no. The rule has also been that we start with an analog exposure ie film. Digital printing or alt print are permitted. So you are sort of doing it backwards. If you have some film images in you archive they would be very welcome

As to the average number, in the low 20s lately. We have had up to 50 or more in the past.

Nige,

Good to see you are in for the magic round 50. I remember meeting up with you to look at your Mamiya 645 gear before I purchased my own. Way back then you were developing film but not printing, have you had a chance to make your own prints in the darkroom yet? Not that it matters for this exchange.

Alright, I'm in (I think). My tardy cards for round 48 are currently drying, and I hope to have them out in the post tomorrow. However, Japan Post is ... I don't know what it is. Officially it's not delivering mail to certain countries, but is accepting mail from others, however it's not always clear if that includes parcels or postcards and letters (either direction). Long story short, if I can send the tardy cards now, even surface, I will. If I can't...does this disqualify me from Round 50? I'd really like to be a part of it. If I can be, I'm in for the max, if it's an issue, I'll understand.
