"final" tally... i rec'd 13 cards and sent out 17, plus the additional ones to those special folks like george nova scotia who makes this work - thanks all for a really great round!

i've enjoyed the whole effort.

Wow. I'm getting senial. I totally missed the sign up for the next round that was supposed to start May 1st. The thread is now up and we'll run the sign up till June 15th.

Now that I have a little time after a very busy beginning of May I can comment on the cards I have received.

The card from Howard Earl is an very nice portrait. This reminds me of a piece on the PBS Newshour about two photographer in New York doing "street portraits" with Speed Graphic cameras.
The photo from Wayne Frederick of Fort Williams is nicely composed. I like how you included the trees without obscuring much of the fort. It looks like a cool place to photograph. The tone and surface of the paper you used fits the image well.
What a surprise to receive a photo of New York from bedrof in Russia. The the silhouetted figures are critical to the story this image tells. Good job balancing a high contrast subject.
The card from gijsbert is of a Buddha in a peaceful place. A bit contrasty for my taste, but well done.

Hurrah! Matt's picture of some 'Dalek' pepper pot shaped insulators has finally arrived! It will definitely get pride of place for a while. I really appreciate you sending the extra print Matt, so thanks for that.

I've just reread Matt's original post about the cards sent and I'm currently trying to work out which toners were used on my postcard received. Initially I erred towards Selenium only, but no Ilford RC MG paper that I have ever put through this has had such a change in print colour. So, I am now presuming that it was done in the Berg copper / brown toner, which I like very much. I think I will have to get some to try myself, after looking at the print for a while.

As for photographing a real Dalek, I had the chance but then missed out on it.

A garage a few miles from me has / had a full size red and gold one in their window as I drove past it one day. Why I don't know?!?. I must take my MF camera and get a picture of this and some more buildings in the area I thought. Next time I pass it, the garage is up for sale and the windows are all boarded up, with presumably the Dalek still in place?! AAAARGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

I have a feeling that I am going to have to go and enquire if it is still there and if it's possible to take a pic or two whilst able...

Got more cards of this round.
The one from gijsbert - Buddha at Cafe Budapest in Amstertdam. Second card of a statue during this round. Somehow this thick cluster of bamboo behind Buddha reminds me of traditional fur hats of Caucasian and Cossack people. The contrast is just fine to me.
The Harlem Portrait card from Howard Earl. This photograph looks like being taken some hundred years ago (in a good sense).
Cross country by iandvaag – interesting balance of a black skier figure and a tree.

I've been lax in commenting on cards received and I have a few more since my last post:

Wayne Frederick's card of derelict mansion is fantastic - the late afternoon light and the leafless trees all work well to highlight this abandoned place
bedrof's "From Under the Bridge" is a nice silouetted moment captured
gijsbert's "Buddha at Cafe Budapest" is also quite interesting - I wonder what it would like like in infrared, with all that foliage surrounding the statue.

Also, going through my list, I realised I received a card from awty, who was not on my list. I'll have to look back at past exchanges to find your address again Paul, so I can send you a card in return!
Terry, I know you are on my list and that you sent out cards, but I can't find it. However, I'll take another look around through all my papers and see if it got misplaced somewhere, somehow.

In other news, I finally have my darkroom back up and running after a distilled water incident - two of the jugs I had had a crack in them, which slowly leaked water all over the floor, over who knows how many weeks, which was problematic since my darkroom is carpeted (it's a converted bedroom). So I had to deal with the mildew and a complete clean up of the space (which was good, it needed it), but it just created a delay I could not have anticipated. Now I have a lot of catching up to do before it gets too hot to do so over the summer!

And I have received Mosseontheloose's postcard for this round, being #46. Not bad from Japan to the UK just seven days and I love the stamp!

And even better, is that the card has been taken and printed in the square format = my favourite .

A picture taken of one of my favourite subjects as well = dereliction. I will say no more whilst others await their cards.

Many thanks for the card, which I will enjoy looking at for a while before being put away with my ever expanding collection.

Thanks Terry! Glad to hear it made it to the UK so fast. And I found your card too! It got mixed in with some bills for some reason. I like it a lot - I love shooting cattails when I'm back home in Canada (never really come across them here in Japan).

I just received a card from moosontheloose. Rachelle's photo of a barber shop in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is both well done photographically, and eerie at the same time. I very real reminder that technology in not always your friend. Rachelle, how did you get access to such a "hot" piece of real estate?

Thanks Darwin! I sometimes wonder if I printed the card too dark, but it does reflect what it was like to be there. I did a four-day tour in the Exclusion Zone. The main purpose was photography and I had a great guide who knew how to avoid the tour groups and who had explored a lot of these places on his own. I was allowed to use a tripod (just had to cover the legs with plastic bags) so that really helped, especially since most of the days were quite overcast (but which provided a lot of nice soft light). I'd really like to go back again soon.

You can join round 47 right now if you want to. Just follow the link in signature. If you want to wait for round 49 check back in January 2020.

My sincere condolences to you Mike. It is always so sad when a loved one passes.

On a different note, it seems that I may be the first to receive your card for this round, number 46 and I'm in the UK, so good on you the mail services.

It's the second recent card that I've received that has a bridge in it. Great composition btw!

You don't mention, but what paper is your print made on Mike? I'm guessing it's a warm based FB with maybe a silk type surface? Probably totally wrong = I quite often am! LOL

WOW thats fast, been only a few days, thought maybe the USA cards would win that race. Thanks for the kind words. The paper was a semi matt , I was clearing out some old odd paper one was Foma and cannot identify the other but was the same surface as the Foma but warm tone, liked them both.
