My cards went out this past Monday. This time it’s a scene quite close to home. I had an oversight when making the labels and I didn’t consider the corrected addresses when I sent my cards out, so I’ll resend those couple cards shortly. Sorry about that!

Thanks for all the cards I’ve received thus far, I’ve really been enjoying them!

drpsilver – Aging Gracefully – Really beautiful print! The choice of paper texture and toning really work well together with the subject.
gdehaan – knotwilgen – Very pleasing peaceful composition, everything seems very well balanced. The birds in flight are perfect.
mooseontheloose – Umechie – A truly lovely portrait. The directionality of the light falling on her face gives a very life-like effect.
darinwc – Air Spirit – The building is very reminiscent of a church in my city. Interesting juxtaposition of the well defined form of the building and the wispy clouds.
aluk – Two friends – Fantastic candid shot, I think the contrast is perfect. I wonder what they are talking about?

Mooseontheloose-Selfie Check:Well up to your usual standard, loved all the frames within frames which lead the eye towards the selfie checker in the middle of the frame.
Paul Fitzpatrick-East Winds: Enjoyed the feeling of this image which reminded me of Robert Adams' work (see his images of cottonwoods). Don't worry too much about the niceties of fine printing, you'll get there in the end!
Ilya-Bobuz's Ear-Moody cloudscape, a nice surreal feeling to this image (I do ,love a bit of Surrealism).

5th card arrived yesterday
Matt King - February Reflected. The border less postcard is sharp. Does not look ice cold at all which I would expect for February.

Here on the south west coast of British Columbia our climate is quite temperate. In this neighbourhood, there are a few people with palm trees (the hardy versions).
This year in February, in the Vancouver area the average high was 8C (55F), and the average low was 3C (46F), and there were 13 days of rain.
The photo was taken in my local neighbourhood and we average a bit warmer than that - we are surrounded by ocean and the Fraser River - a really big river.

One of my favourites-Matt's cards never disappoint and I've amassed a large collection of them by now!

In addition to mooseontheloose's beautiful portrait, I've also received some lovely trees (I think I'm starting to sense a theme here...) from awty: nice job, somehow this photo almost looks like a charcoal drawing to me - I really like the effect here; drpsilver whose subject brings back happy memories of a giant piece of driftwood my brother and I 'rescued' when we were youngsters; Gijsbert's knotwilgen - nice framing, the reflection in the water, the sky, the birds - it all comes together quite well and really does convey the wintery mood. MattKing's "February Reflected", also with a wintery feel - I do indeed like it and the printing is excellent... almost makes me shiver even if you say it was above freezing! And last (so far) iandvaag's Lychnis - you've presented an interesting contrast between the vivacity of the plant and the decay of the paint on the wall behind it. I like the straightforward perspective and framing here too.

A couple more lovely cards came for me:

Arches under Flyover – tezzasmall – Great focal point with the shadows almost giving a vertigo effect. I really like the bottom-weighting on this print.
Limestone seashore – bedrof – The texture of the pocked limestone rock is quite interesting. Nice framing of the curved shoreline in the top left corner.

Good to hear my card has arrived with you iandvaag.

Although I only send out six per round, I rarely get anywhere near six people post acknowledgements of receipt.

One is left wondering if the prints sent have just got lost in the big mail black hole.

And I'm sure I can't be the only one...

Yesterday I rec'd a postcard from iandvaarg - Lychnis. Great contrasts between the pale bricks and flowers.

I plan to get my pictures done in the next week and out before next weekend. Will be moving soon so have to pack-up the darkroom and the rest of the house. It is anyone's guess when I will next be able to have a darkroom.

I received three more
Le Penseur - Black Dog - soft dreamy feeling the card gives, I like it a lot.
Lychnis - iandvaag - oh yes, that contradiction of straight brick edges, old paint flakes and flower lines. Nice print.
February Reflected - MattKing - nice contrast of a crisp air and sharp trees, crystally clean picture. Subtle toning makes the atmosphere of the picture more lively.

Matt King's February reflection. The winter is very nicely captured here.
Blackdog's The rock poolers at Le Rozel. Great capture of a community moment.
bedrof's matches. Very nice image of a mundane subject.
iandvaag's Lychnis. I love the textures and lines, very well done
Rob Skeoch's Santa portrait. Very sensible portrait, the eye contact works wonders

I am so behind in my commenting - both this round and round #43.
So far the only card I have acknowledged and commented upon is mooseontheloose' "Portrait of Umechie"

I have finally found time to comment on the pile of cards that I have accumulated. Here are my comments in no particular order.

The photo from MattKing draws the viewer into the image, and prompts me to ask what is around the bend. You managed the bright sky and selection well.
"Two Friends" from aluk is very well printed, and very sharp. Moreover, there is a story that this photo has to tell: what are they talking about?, Do they know each other, or are they discussing business?, ... Well done.
The photo from awty is sharp, has good tonal variation, and gives the viewer a lot to look at - repeating patterns, texture, tone, ... I might suggest that a flash (or burn) in the sky areas might prevent the viewers eye drifting out of the photo.
"Touch"by BlackDog is very intriguing to me, almost mysterious. So many questions/story lines prompted by this photo. Well done.
I like "Lychnis" by iandvaag because the subject is clear, and well differentiated from the background. The flowers are dark, but still show texture. Nicely done.
The card from bedrof of the Irish countryside, taken by a person living in Russia, and mailed from Montenegro. I like to peaceful nature of the photo. You controlled the depth-of-focus well, and the paper surface fits the image nicely. This print is very nice.
The card from gijsbert is very nice. I like the repeating patters of both trees and birds. They work well together. Also by photographing in near silhouette you focus the viewer in the elements of the photo, not the details.

Thanks for all the nice images. I am looking forward to Round #45.

But aren't the 'send your postcards to...' and the 'I've received cards from...' totally different names and addresses? In other words, I thought that you sent cards to people on the list given to you and you don't know who you will receive from, making it a bit of a surprise with each one?

Nope - the lists overlap.
Sometimes that (and the postage stamp used) is the only way I can figure out who a card is from .
