My first card appeared in the post today! Less than a week from Canada to Japan, not bad.

Beautiful shot of a rainy day on an old cheap camera from Chris (Chocochick93). Nice use of leading lines to draw the viewer in, and I especially like the metallic grey tones you've achieved in this shot.

I really need to get crackin' on choosing a negative for this round!

First Cards Received

First card from Chocochick93, graphically strong with a light touch of Alfred Hitchcock. In a marvel of delivery it came in just four days from British Columbia to Boston.

Second card from Mark, showing wonderful architectural geometry in San Francisco. I like it as an abstract in portrait orientation.

My cards will be late this round. Unfortunately my niece (on my wife's side of the family) died suddenly on 18 June. I have several negatives chosen, I just need to get in the darkroom to print.

First of all: Darwin, sorry for your loss. Times have been tough for you and yours, take it easy with the postcards, that should be the least of your worries.

Now, so far I have received three cards:

Mark_S, detail of a Victorian house. Nicely framed, lots of different details to observe. Very nice.
TXFZ1, Cathedral Spires, that's some nature you have captured, there's none of that in my flat country. Love the detail of seeing the water flowing. The great outdoors. Lovely.
Pelo78, SF Twilight at the beach, beautiful how the playing kids turn into ghosts due to the slower shutter speed. That really makes the picture. One would almost forget to look at the background, which would be a shame. Very nice.

Off to a very nice start, I would say.

I have been out and about with the camera, shot two rolls of 6x9 (I'm more used to 6x6 and 6x4,5; with 6x9 rolls fill up pretty fast!), and developed the first of those. First roll of film developed in my new house, hooray! I hope I can select one or two shots after developing the second roll, and then... I hope my cyanotype chemistry is not too shaken and stirred from moving house. In other words: it will be a few weeks before I can send my cards.

Matt and Jacco, thank you for your warm thoughts. It is wonderful feeling to know that I have friends in other parts of the world. It means a lot.

To date I have only received 3 cards:
The cards from Mark_S of architectural details in a San Francisco house is very nice. Very sharp (thank you Hasselblad) and has good tonal range.
TXFZ1 captured a small piece of a wonderful place to photograph: Yosemite National Park. There is so much to see, and it is never the same visit-to-visit. Certainly one of the "photographer's paradise".
TimVermont's photo from a historic village is very nice. Sharp and good tonal range. I like how the clouds just above the roof line interact with the tree branches, and how these branches are mirrored in the shadow branches. The Fujinon 210mm is my favorite lens with 4x5.

My cards were mailed this morning. The negative I selected is old and a little dirty, so please excuse the dust.

To date I have only received 3 cards:

As have I. But I like them a lot! Unfortunately, work and illness has kept me out of the darkroom as of late, but this weekend or next might work out well for me. I hope to get my cards done before the end of the month, as I'll be travelling quite extensively over August and September (northern Japan and Borneo/Java respectively).

I think the summer rounds always tend to be a little slow out of the gate for a number of reasons.

So far I have received five excellent cards. My comments follow:

Chocochick93 - "Rainy Day in New Westminster" - A nice, moody treatment of a moody place. Printed well as well.
Mark_S - "Painted Ladies" - I really like the choice of angle of view on this card - it suits the subject well. And the print is excellent
TimVermont - "Historic Deerfield Village" - A really nice contact print that drew me right in.
TXFZ1 - "Cathedral Spires" - Deep, dark shadows that give a great sense of a beautiful and majestic place. And again, very well printed.
drpsilver - "Clouds, St. Helena" - After the year that Darwin has had, it is no wonder he is looking to the sky! So beautiful and peaceful - thanks!

So that is 5 down, and 15 to go.

My cards are printed and labelled. I'll try to have them in the mail tomorrow.

It's been a crazy summer for me. I have received several postcards so far, but I have not even had a chance to look at them. But I promise, I will, and I will comment on them. Anyway, this week I have finished my postcards and today they are going out to the wide world. It's a hand printed color card about my latest discovery in anthropology. I hope you'll enjoy it. Please don't take it too seriously...

I received my copy in the mail today. I like the play of light on the ivy leading the eye. Wow!

I've been rather swamped with work this round, so only just been able to visit my local lab to print my postcards. With luck they'll be ready for posting by weeks end!

In the meantime, I've received 2 cards (that I'm aware of, since changing my address):

• Darwin's "Clouds, St Helena" - love the "movement" in these, described extremely well.
• Chocochick93's "Rainy Day in New Westminster" - arrived in Australia the week before I returned to Thailand and what a great image to start round 32!

I'll check to see if others have arrived in AU and update shortly.

Working on my postcards since this weekend. Things have been rather hectic after moving house, so I'm "a bit" delayed. Haven't got a darkroom yet, so first I thought I would create some cyanotypes. Alas, I just can't find the time to do that. So, I'm now opting for instant photography. I hope to finish taking the photos this week and to send them ultimately next week.

Two cards arrived yesterday. The first was from anikin, a hand printed color photo of "homo cellphonicus". I like the humor in the photo. The other was from MattKing, a split toned photo how man "managed" the forest. I like how the sunlight accents both ivy and stump. I do not see a lot of sepia in this print, but just enough to warm the image from cool/neutral grey.

Alas, no cyanotypes as I had initially planned, but a unique Impossible photo for each of you on my list.
Received card count stuck at four; I guess it's a slow round due to summer holidays and whatnot.
