Had a teeny accident last weekend, which put a spanner in the works for me addressing my cards. Fear not, I'm back on deck and will have them all done and dusted for mailing next week!

Sorry I've been lax about commenting on everyone's cards!

Today I received a polaroid from kraker: a black and white image of a pear tree (no partidges in it though!). It's been a long time since I've held a polaroid in my hands and I'm quite impressed with the black and white offerings from the Impossible Project: will definitely have to try this film soon!

I've also received the following:

"Remnant" by Matt King. I really like the treatment of this image, unfortunately it arrived a little mangled from the post office!

"Clouds, St Helena" by drpsilver, and the "painted ladies house" from Mark Sauerwald. Both of these images feature a great use of leading lines, whether from the house or the clouds.

"Historic Deefield Village" by Tim Trapp: really love the shadows of the tree on this great old house. This is definitely somewhere I would like to photograph one day.

"Cathedral Spires and Merced River" by TFXZ1: a beautiful landscape that I could only hope to render as well.

and finally, "Homo Cellphonicus" by anikin, an image that makes me laugh every time I look at it. You have a great eye Eugene.

As for me, well, I finally was able to christen my "new" darkroom for the first time this week -- now that I've gotten back into the swing of things this exchange is the first thing I'll get cracking on. I have the negatives chosen and they will be printed this weekend, and hopefully sent out on Monday.

An update on cards received:

Homo Cellphonicus from Anikin. Cracks me up. Well done with a sly and wicked sense of humor!
Clouds, St. Helena from Drpsilver. Great cloudscape, simply rendered. The sliver of land belowis just the right amount of visual anchor.
Remnant from Matt King and Cathedral Spires and Merced River from TFXZ1. Sadly both heavily dinged up and abraded in the mail. Matt's split toning is an interesting look and something I'd like to try. +1 on Rachelle's remarks above for Cathedral Spires it's well done.

Just received a "Polaroid" from kraker. It has been a long time since I also held a SX-70 like print. The print I received was of a pear tree on what appears to be color film. The Impossible Project appears to be making good headway on resurrecting the best instant film I knew of. I hope they produce a 4x5 format when they "get up to speed". Thanks for a look at this new film.

Just a quick update concerning my cards. They are all done and printed, and I managed to get one lot out in the post (I did several different images for this round). I was out the door to catch my flight to Borneo when I remembered I needed to mail the others, so I grabbed them and and put them in my bag. Unfortunately, I forgot to mail them once at the airport, so now they'll be travelling with me across Borneo, Java, and Singapore. So most of you will have to wait a few more weeks to get yours. Apologies everyone!

I finally posted the second batch of cards, my apologies for the lateness!

I started this my first round with the ambitious plan of printing 5 or 6 different images but in the end I was barely able to print 2!

Also, printing the mages in separate batches (without recording well the printing set up...) turned out to be a bad idea.

However, I enjoyed doing the printing and receiving your cards! Next round I'll try to do better!

I finished printing my cards last night and mailed them out this morning. Seems like I got carried away a little while printing last night, not realising it was a small group this round ... so most of you will receive two cards from me, hope you don't mind. So glad I finished just in time, so I can sign up for #33 tomorrow

Have received 4 cards so far this round, over the past couple of weeks.

kraker - Gone Pear Shaped. Great to receive a Polaroid in the exchange and to see how Impossible Film looks and feels too.
anikin - Homo Cellphonicus. Great take on our obsession with the cellphone and modern gadgets! And nice to see a colour print as well.
drpsilver - Clouds, St Helena. Love the patterns in this one; have to agree it does look like the shoreline.
mattking - Remnant. Love the look and feel of this card, the sepia and selenium toning works beautiful. Reminds me a lot, of images from the 1800s.

My cards are finally ready - just need to drop them off at the PO later in the week.

okay... if done is printed, labelled and stamped - i'm done. they will go in the post tomorrow, (labor day holiday here in the colonies!). i used up my breather month--- i'm gonna do better next round!!!

Here are my promised comments:

Mark Sauerwald Painted ladies. Part of wooden architecture in San Francisco. I too am very much fascinated into amount of love and work put into these beautiful house decorations. Just amazing.

David's Cathedral Spires. I assume this is Yosemite. Being AA's backyard, it's a tough challenge to come up with an original image. I think you succeeded wonderfully! Great image of glowing rocks!

Tim Trapp's Historic Deerfield Village. An interesting abstract of windows of old architecture. Great symmetry and textures!

Darwin's Clouds, St Helena. That's really cool. I get this image would make an impressive print if enlarge bigger!

Rachelle's Rice Fields. Lith print for postcard exchange? You are brave! I find it extremely challenging to make even a couple of nice prints when doing lith, not a whole 20 or so postcards! Very impressive! And the image itself lays wonderfully with this paper/printing style. Great mood and threatening skys - as if a typhoon is coming. Love it!

Found 4 cards in the box of mail I picked-up from the post office this morning. The trip to Yosemite was challenging and enjoyable (except for an ill fitting backpack). Now I need to process the film that I exposed.

I like the way jimo uses the boardwalk to draw the viewer to the people in the photo. Nice tones - well done.
Egrets are beatiful birds, and Pelo78 did a great job capturing one of the magnificant birds on film.
I recieved two cards from rince. Both are very nice pinhole photos of very different subjects: (1) "Berlin Cathedral", and (2) "Moths in mid flight". I really like th perspective used in "Berlin Cathedral". Very nicely done.

P.S. Rince implied that Ilford may be discontinuing production of the Postcard paper. Is this true?

Hi Darwin,

I am glad you liked my two pinhole images. Unfortunately the message about the postcard paper seems correct at least for Germany. I checked with 3 different suppliers here in Germany and they all told me, that the paper is no longer available.

Makes me sad that this paper will no longer be there, since I really liked using it also outside of PE ...

The August 2014 product availability pdf linked to on the Ilford website still lists the postcard paper and indicates that it is usually in stock and that there is worldwide availability.

It may be that the distributor in Germany is no longer bringing it in.

I received Rince's wonderful pinhole image yesterday - "Moths in Midflight".

One of the great things I love about the PE, is seeing so many different styles of photography I'm not even close to trying out; although I do have a pinhole camera at home that I made myself (a kids "Science Kit" on sale here in Thailand).

Still has film in it that I haven't yet had a chance to process - it's on the list of things to do when I'm back in AU.

A few more postcards I discovered around my house

TWO! beautiful cards from Rince Both are pinhole contact prints. One is a macro of an orchid plant. I never would have thought to take a macro shot with a pinhole camera. Fantastic result - soft, dreamy quality added to a gentle plant. Just beautiful! The second is a classical pinhole photo of Berlin cathedral. Excellent composition. How in a world did you manage to compose it so symmetrical and well aligned? It is very difficult to do with a pinhole camera. I'm impressed!

A familiar skyline of San Francisco from Pelo78. Boy, I'm freezing just looking at it! Superb long exposure shot!

Kraker's Impossible shot of "Gone pear-shaped" I love polaroids! For quite some time, I've been thinking of doing one postcard exchange with instant film. You beat me to it! Great job, and beautiful results!

Jame's "crossing the salt marsh". This looks like a great place to go for a vacation! Thank you for bringing good memories.

Matt King's "Remnant". You did really masterful job on this print. It is amazing how a simple tree stump can glow in the hands of a very good printer. I love it!

So I just got back from my travels in SE Asia and was pleased to find some postcards waiting for me in my mailbox!

As Nanette has already said, I really like the leading lines in JimO's "Boardwalk". The two figures in the images are almost incidental but make it a much stronger image.
Another card with great leading lines (in a different style) is rince's "Berlin Cathedral". I really love the mood and tonality in this one. Also, "moths in flight" is a stark image of a delicate subject -- nicely done.
Pelo78's egret is very well framed and printed -- you really get a nice sense of light with this one.
Finally, ozphoto's HMAS Hobart - what more can I say? It's a wonderful colour monotone image.

The rest of my cards (which were written and stamped before I left Japan, but somehow came with me all over SE Asia) have now been properly posted. Sorry for the delay everyone.
