I also received Gord's Rosedeer Hotel. For some reason it seemed familiar to me and I now remember going out of my way to Wayne in my quest to photograph ghost towns across Canada. But for whatever reason I didn't take a picture of the hotel -- not run down enough perhaps?

Also thanks to Tim Gray for his somewhat abstract shot of Hallgrimskirkja and to Wayne Frederick for his Water Taxi shot. In both pictures I like the shifting tonal values that draw my eye all over the image.

This week I've got :

GordRob's Rose Deer Hotel. Interesting building, looks like the ones I'd see in Western movies...

Wayne Frederick's man exiting a watertaxi. I like the general mood, and the poles add a symetry to the composition which I like.

Mark Rewald's Alfalfa. I too like the "fogged paper" effect, as well as the composition and eye contact...

Tim Gray's Hallgrimskirja. Very interesting rythm in this composition !
Thanks !

Well, seems I got quite a few cards whilst I was on holiday in AU! I received the following over the past couple of months:
  • Andrew's "View of South Park from Boreas Pass" - love the detail in this image, makes me yearn even more for a 5x4.
  • Gord's "Rose Deer Hotel" - If I ever get the chance to visit Canada, think this will be one place I'd love to visit and shoot myself.
  • Tim's "Wall" in Reykjavik - Nice texture in those concrete posts.
  • Andres' "Gang" - kids always love to play at this
  • Aron's "No 20" - love this paper!
  • Mark Rewald's "Alfalfa" - Mark, the paper fogging(?) doesn't worry me either - she's a real cutie!
  • Roger's "Double Doors" - Great contrast in the print; matches the subject really well!
  • Craig's "A Bunch of Dollars" - I've never heard of these called that before! And to think I must have been a millionaire as a kid. . . . . . .

Three more cards arrived last week:

markrewald, Alfalfa. Been looking at this card the whole week. Whatever happened to that paper is amazing, it looks absolutely great with this subject.
Tim Gray, upon first seeing this card, I loved the minimalistic approach. Beautiful shades of grey, nicely changing from pillar to pillar. Then I read the back. Nothing 100% certain yet, but the plans are to visit Iceland this summer. I've seen the church in the books and guides, but wouldn't have recognised it on your photo. You've truly managed to give us a different view on a famous landmark. Now I really want to go there!
gordrob, Rose Deer Hotel (or is it Rosedeer-hotel?), captured on a sunny and windy day, by the looks of it. Personally I might have tried printing this with just a bit more contrast. Nice capture, the wheels, the railroad track (still used, or not?), the typical buildings.

Thanks. If I'm not mistaken, I've received 22 out of 25 cards so far, which I consider a very good score!

Thank you for your comments. The PC Exchange is always a good opportunity to see what images work better, what less so.

I've received these four cards since I last commented:

Roger R. Thoms: Lovely subject, with a great nested composition and beautiful tonality.

Labcoat: "Burger Delite", a great colour card with a classic theme.

Wayne Frederick: Nicely captured moment (especially knowing it was taken with a 4x5 camera) and the gentle tones which I primarily contribute to the uncoated lens (and good use of materials) are just lovely.

Tim Gray: Wow. OK, I admit I'm biased since I have a sweet spot for such well composed, minimalistic images like this one. One of my favourites for this great round.

Sorry for being so late with my comments for this round. Lots of great cards received (in no particular order):

  • BlackDog: Beautifully printed and very poetic!
  • markrewald: I don't mind the fogged paper effect either. Looks like a friendly dog!
  • ccross: A good abstract.
  • kc2edh: A very successful attempt at infrared, and a beautiful landscape.
  • andrew.vartabedian: A grand landscape in a small format. Interesting combination.
  • gordrob: "Rose Deer Hotel". Interesting building. Would love to visit that hotel some time.
  • hoffy: Love this one! Several layers of framing, and very well printed.
  • Aron: Another lovely print. Just beautiful!
  • kraker: This photo made me read more about Doel. Seems absurd that one can demolish an entire village.
  • Laurent: Great photo of an artist at work!
  • ozphoto: Fantastic sports photo. Had to look up Australian Rules Football too.
  • ndrs: These two would scare me if I met them!
  • Rom: I wish I had this view on my way to work!
  • Roger Thoms: I like doors. Nice photo of an interesting sample.
  • labcoat: Color photo! The diner looks a little scary for some reason.
  • Tim Gray: A different, and very successful, view of this famous building.
  • Wayne Frederick: Looks cold and windy!

Thanks everyone!

Today, Jake Williams' photo I found on the doormat. Love the portret and composition, maybe a little to hard in print imo, but as Uwe stated reminds us of earlier days.
The statement on the back "everything around you, in the eyes of a sensitive photographer, can offer endless possibilities and chances to see where theytake you" I would say is well spoken and so thru.

Thanks

I have been a little poor on timely responses to the cards I have rec'd since the middle of Jan or thereabouts.

7 more cards in - 25in, 5 to go.

I no particular order I have
gordrob - Rose Deer Hotel. To someone from down under this looks just like what I would expect to see in old western movies. I take it where this hotel is situated the coal dried up and the town died a slow death?
Tim Gray - Wall of Hallgrimskirkja. Another image of great symatry and the light columns in the centre that grow darker toward the edges of the picture.
Craig Ross - A bunch of Dollars. Took me a while to work out what you had photographed, but when I did it was obvious. The close detail was what threw me initially.
Roger R. Thoms - Double Doors. Well framed. The rectangular doors forming a square, then framed by more rectangles. Great image that has drawn many comments from the visitors to my home.
labcoat - Burger Delite. Great to get another colour picture and with hand written notes as well. Thank you.
ndrs - Gang. If my kids tried dressing up like this they and I would be ordered to seek councilling:smile:. But it is not to unlike what I would have been up to when I was 10 just 30 years ago.
Mark Rewald - Alfalfa. I love the effect that you achieved with the print.

Jake's Moment gathered fro coincidence. Looks like a mom showing a son how to wrap a.. valentines gift? with a ribbon and how to tie it. Nice backlighting on the mom and child from ambient lighting spilling in the kitchen window.

Reminds me of all the things I learned from my Mom at the kitchen table or kitchen counter. Nice image.

I’ve received four more fine cards:

Roger Thoms - "Double Doors" - Interesting patterns and textures, and really well printed too
gordrob - "Rose Deer Hotel" - Always like a good "Last Chance Saloon" - nice use of the Cooltone Developer
Tim Gray - "Hallgrimskirkja" - A striking, perspective challenging abstract
Black Dog - "A Moment Gathered from Coincidence" - A wonderful connection - is it father and son?

26 down, two (hpulley and RHITMrB) to come.

Thanks to all for participating!

Rai's print arrived. Very neat deckling (I think that is the term for the fluted edges). Yes, a pinhole, my mind said before reading the description. Nice absttraction of two human faces. The toner colur, and low key approach work quite well. The stiffness of the paper the image is printed in is great for this application as well. Isn't amazing how our brains are wired to study faces every chance we get? Well done, Rai.

Two more received since my last update (which, frankly, has been a while):

Black Dog, another frame in the series of moments gathered from coincidence. Mine is an evening/night shot of the city, buildings, lights, and a lot of random camera-movements. Makes for a very interesting photo!
rai, open and closed. What can I say but "Wow!"? This is a great photo, and a great print. Absolutely great, love it.

Thanks!
And with that, if I'm not mistaken, I've received 23 out of 25, an excellent score.

Rai's card was waiting for me when I got back home from my trip -- a wonderful pinhole image of two faces. Like others have mentioned, the subjects, framing, VanDyke-ing, paper and work well together to create a great image overall. Thanks -- definitely worth the wait!

Got two more cards from this round in the last two months.

rai - Open and Closed. I was really impressed with this one. I have had the idea of sending this or cyantypes for a couple of exchanges, but not gotten round to it. The two ever so detailed, but yet soft faces.
Blackdog - A moment gathered from coincidence. lovely image of the young girl. I like the square frame images.

27arrived from 30. Brilliant round this one.

Last week I received, meanwhile unexpected, the postcard from Jeff smith. I love this nice shot off the Cleveland Museum of Art. Nice composition, tonal view and a interesting overview from its Gardens.

So I can only invite Harry Pulley, Isaac Sachs and Mark Barendt to suprise me with there postcard since then my list of 30 will be complete.
Looking forward.

Received a week or so ago from htimsdj "Cleveland Museum of Art". It's never too late to sent out cards! Looks like a very interesting place, not just for the artwork but the play of light, shadows and reflections add so much. The changes throughout the day and seasons must make it a very interesting place to visit.
