Postcard Exchange Round 12 Comments and Results

Received 5 cards in the last day or two. Mick Fagan's high key portrait of a houseguest looks so simple but is very effective, well done. Thanks for your kind comment regarding my previous postcard offerings. Peter Scrager's image of a pool in Florida at dusk, I think, is very moody. Really enjoyed
gmessarit's image of a tree in Greece, beautiful use of selective focus. Also loved Doug Smith's diptych of an overpass taken with a Diana camera. I would love to start using some toy cameras in the future. Thanks for the congrats on my article in B&W. Still pretty stoked about it. I totally know how you feelMatt King about your Kodak products being discontinued. My beloved Kodak Infrared will be no more by the end of the year and I have stockpiled exactly 4 rolls! (I have 20 rolls on order) Really enjoyed your Driftwood postcard from Gabriola, an island I have on my list to visit. Been to Hornby, Cortez, Quadra, and Denman so far.
I had a very productive day in the darkroom on my day off on Thursday and printed all of my postcards. This time I decided to only print one image instead of the three I usually do. It's a very recent image so I wasn't sick of it yet. Just have to write on them so that might take a little while.

I'm practically living in my darkroom at the moment, printing pics of WW2 battlefields in Normandy, some of which will be in the next round of the exchange [will be finished by monday and then it's on to light abstracts and portraits].Really impressed with the cards I've recieved so far!

Thanks Doug for the explanation. Now 4X4 makes sense, it looked a little bit small for 6X6. And I also learned new word diptych.

I got a few more cards in the mail today.
rst's lovely leaf. Such a simple shot, but effective.
Pete H.'s shot of a rollerblader in Paris. I love the light on the guy doing the flip.
Mark's fish market. My eye was drawn to the one fish on the plate in the foreground, while on every other plate there are multiple fish.
Mick's house-guest. simple, but elegant.

Would just like to say I've received some beautiful cards so far - so many I haven't actually had a chance to sit down and go through them all! I will post personal thanks here when I make that time... As you can probably guess, I haven't printed my cards yet (gulp!,) but I'm going to give it my all to get them printed this week (which probably means in the post on Saturday - 1 day late, sorry!)

MattKing's Driftwood. Interesting color. That's a lot of work for a postcard!
Ridger? Looks like a Maple leaf takent with an SL66 -- This is my wife's favorite so far.

I seem to have sent a lot of postcards to The Netherlands. Such a great collection of traditional photographers for a small country! That's great.

Hi Eric, it is not maple, it is Parthenocissus quinquefolia or virginia creeper. Here in Germany it is called Wilder Wein.

Our neighbors cover half of their house with it and it looks beautiful in autumn but in the end it seems that all those leafs make it into our backyard, which is not a problem because it means more models for images like this

Wow, what a great round and I already received a whole pile of cards. I like them all, each on its own. I already commented on the cards from Tim Gray, Mike Wilde, and George (gmessarit). Here are some more:

Pep Miro sent a blue toned, very atmospheric Catalonian village.

Peter Schrager was so kind to send a Florida pool image to me in cold and wet Germany. Thank you

Gas prices are on a rise, so Greg (Buster6x6) sent me "Todd's gas can".

Then I got the "Great Wall", sent right out of The Netherlands from Mark Mombarg.

Pete H showed me guys jumping higher than Notro Dame in Paris.

eric sent Dang Dog, very funny. This dog looks like "Do you really want to take that photograph?"

Stan160 sent me plastic crabs. Funny. I will watch out for this crab crap when I am in New England next year.

Jake Williams sent me a mirror, but I can not see myself in it, next time Jake, please fokus correctly

Randall Murrow (randyman) sent an abstrct pattern made by concrete, rust and wood.

Then there was this nice Flamingo sent by Nicholas Lindan. You were in Luisenpark, that is a 30 minutes drive from where I live. And now this Luisenpark Flamingo has to come from Ohio to me ...

Mark Fisher sent another County Fair image. I was afraid that in the first run of my program I was not in your group and that I would miss an image in that series. But then Klinger joint in late and that changed the grouping to my advantage

Pete Klinger sent the Ring of Brodgar, one of the rare color cards. Looks good to me. And also thank you for the other image which I also like, even more than Ring of Brodgar

And Mick Fagan sent a high key portrait which I already knew from last years Tuebingen get-together. It also works good in this small format. You knew that I liked it, so I assume that you chose this negative just for me

Ehhh, and some rst sent a boring leaf. Go back to the funny cards for the next round.

Dear All,

Just a quick note to say thank you all so much for including me in this postcard round, as always I have enjoyed waiting for the post and am in awe of the ingenuity, creativity and quality of your work.

All postcards received by myself are put up on the notice board behind reception at HARMAN technology so all our staff have the opportunity to look at your work.

Two prints so far this year I was especially taken with are 'all good pigs go to heaven' by Mark from the USA and Pete H's print of 'leaping Notre Dame' .

Just a quick note to tell you I have just finished printing the cards for this round.
Now I just need some time to write all of them... I'll post a note when I've put them in the mail.

I've already received many great postcards; if I can find some time, I'll post some individual comments. Let me mention already that they are all very good, thanks!

Those kids have more guts then brain, a Pete . An amazing capture from Pete H. from streets of Paris. Wonderful.

I got Jon King's shot of Mission San Jose. For a second there, it made me think it was the same place I shot at last month, then I looked at the back and saw it was half a country away.

Also I just posted all my cards today.

The deadline is coming and I got a little bogged down at work and with Thanksgiving visitors. I'll be printing and posting soon however. This has been one of the best rounds in which I've participated. Thanks to all who have sent them already.

I finally managed to get around to printing the last of the cards this morning, after running out of paper with 2 more cards to go, and having to order some more.

I'll be addressing the cards this evening, and posting them out at the beginning of the week, once I can get to the post office for some stamps, so my apologies in advance for the cards being late

Still on the Berlin theme, Birger's Reichstag mirrors have just arrived. The geometric patterns are fun.

Phew... I'm literally wiping the perspiration from my brow having just finished a - for me - mammoth printing session! But, the good news is all my cards are printed and drying as I type this. I bought stamps earlier today (the lady in the post office is now convinced I'm mad I think,) so provided I can coax my printer into producing the labels they should be in Monday's post!

Hi Greg, 'Centrum' was the name during DDR times, it has now been completely worked over inside and out and is the most upscale house in the 'Kaufhof' chain of department stores. You certainly wouldn't recognize it now!

My cards went into the post this morning.

My parents used to come with the train to the station in east Berlin, so we used to go to pick them up. Food was very cheap especially if you smuggled exchanged east German marks at 1:3. The store floor was disinfected with creosote like S-Bahn cars. I can still smell it. I will come back and visit one day, my cousin still leaves at Obentraut St. I used to live in Neukoln, Panier Str.13.
