In the wooded area behind our home...
This was an experiment with 3 images Image focus at nearest, furthest & correct distance. The 3 images were then merged giving this subtle blurring.

What is the point of posting on a forum a 7Mpx image, 2600+ pixels on a side? Apart from slowing down page load?
As you have noted, the big files don't post well on Photrio.
So going forward, a request that people resize files down to a more manageable size - 1000 - 1200 pixels on the long side works reasonably well - before posting in this thread.
If you need to share a larger file, you can host them elsewhere and link to them here.

Thanks @MattKing for the guidance moving forward.

To answer the original question: speaking as someone with a couple decades' experience as a web software engineer, I'll just note that the images I uploaded fit within the site's acceptable file size limit (2mb I believe) and at least in my browsers (current versions of Firefox, Chrome and Safari) they're being resized properly on the client side to fit the page and look perfectly fine (due to the max-width CSS style property which is being correctly applied). In most modern sites/apps, the images would be re-scaled on the server side and the appropriate resolution served to each user to fit their screen size and thus not waste bandwidth, but in the absence of that tooling, the combination of a file size limit and max-width property works just fine. In the age of high DPI screens etc., 2600px does not strike me as excessively large for sharing photographs, but this is a subject on which reasonable people can disagree and so I default to respecting the community's stated and enforced file upload size requirements.

FWIW, it isn't clear to me that people who view this site on cel phones or other alternatives get much enjoyment out of a 2600 px file.
Those who are on desktops are probably fine.

@GLS your bark study made me think about things to experiment with. This is a little tree in my front yard. Mamiya C330, Delta 400.
