Took a bit of doing to get this image to a small enough size to post here. Image shows up super big unless I downsize it quite a bit.

600px wide is a good size for portrait oriented images and 800px is good for landscape. You can also select to insert the image as a thumbnail if it is larger.

With colour images, the downloader here works best if you resize them down to 800 pixels on the long side.
For black and white, I usually aim for 1200 pixels on the long side.
