Not exactly sure what you are asking, but I’ll give it a shot.
The image breaks down into two parts: the ground and sky. Most of the work had been to find the right balance between the two. My first inclination on most images is to go toward the dramatic. With time I will walk it back a little. To the best of my recollection, the work on this image probably falls into three stages. First as a work print to explore the possibilities, then as a finished print (it was part of a print offer in Photo Techniques Magazine). Recently, I've been revisiting and reworking images, trying to keep the mood while applying a more subtle approach. Time wise, I worked on it a few hours in the second stage, fiddling with it off and on over time in the first, and it took about 30 minutes revisiting it. The revision stage was actually more like playing than refinishing it at this time.
Yes, that's pretty much what I asked, thanks for replying. By the way, am I right in assuming that you used split grade printing?

This would make a great submission for the current month's Monthly Shooting Assignment theme: "Creatures"
Here is the thread: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/msa-o-n-august-2023-creatures.200847/page-2#post-2717630

{Tweaked by moderator - per avandesande's later post:
They posted out of order, the first/top one is in lith developer the second/bottom one is dektol and selenium toned. The foma classic tones very aggresively it is hard to find the snatch point.}

Very sweet...
Nice timing after the storm!
Question for this group: Are digitally captured images ok to share in this thread? I don't care either way as I primarily shoot film however I do have an extensive landscape portfolio of digitally captured.
