This was the Gurney and Foyt LeMans winner, about 5 years after the fact. On display in the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn (I think), Michigan where it still lives today. My first ever photo with a view camera, too, of one of my all time favorite cars.

They were having a bit of a sports car display, thus the Maserati Birdcage in the background.

There was something else there called the "Cotton Owens Challenger." Back in those days I used to read in one of the car magazines about this secret across-the-US underground race, formally known as the "Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash." It was something of a protest against a nationwide 55 mph speed limit imposed as a largely ineffective fuel-saving measure at a time when the US was experiencing gasoline shortages. Now, I was never quite sure if the "race" was real, or just some tongue-in-cheek banter and fabricated stories by some of the columnists. Until I saw the Dodge Challenger specially outfitted in the Cotton Owens shop for reliable high-speed cruising with extended range. This had been a contestant, so for the first time, I knew for sure that the Cannonball was real.

Nicely Done..!!!

1. I really dig the look of all those European..... and especially Eastern European..... trucks.

2. Wow, a 550.
That is a pretty rare car...isn't it.?

3. That model Volvo is at the top of my wife's "I Want One" list.

Wow..... those are counterfeits eh.?
I must say, i like these A LOT better than the Cobra Reproductions.....then again, i never thought a Cobra was a particularly attractive car to begin with.

The Porsche 550 was a racing sports car produced by Porsche from 1953 to 1956. In that time only 90 Porsche 550s were produced.
It's hard to get an original one, so he 550 is among the most frequently reproduced classic automobiles.
