You spend half your life twisting a ring to make a photo look like more than just pretty mushy colours, but why!?

Ever look at something at think this needs to be out of focus, every now again?? Well probably not but sometimes I do or do by accident at least.

Anyways post a photo that's out of focus you love, or write about how I'm stupid! Enjoy!

So basically my town is not very aesthetically pleasing or good in any general way but the Christmas lights were switched on yesterday and I looked up at this thing, which is really trippy to stand under, and snapped this. AE1, Sigma 24mm.

Great photo, Ellis666. The Lomography site has lots of crazy photos, but some, like this, are really showing the image our minds see.

This was taken looking down a street at night. I racked the focus over as far as I could. I have been toying with these as an abstract series. Could be fun.

When I received my Pentax LX I immediately noticed it was affected by what is called "sticky mirror syndrome", a tipical illness of this camera: in short the soft rubber hinges that support and damp the mirror age with time and become sticky. In serious cases these pads slightly collapse so besides the slow return the position of the mirror is also compromised with the results that a medium distance and small aperture the lens doesn't focus properly and you get backfocus.

Many of the pics taken with my first test film were out of focus, but two portraits came out well, I like the "feel" of soft focus and I adopted one of these pics as avatar for this board. The other one is here:

Bellow is one of the many images I took on purpose out of focus since I think that "in focus" and "sharpness" do not always contribute positively to image.

Our Christmas tree this past season, out of focus wide open with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8.

Scan of a print I made from the negative.

I received a gift Argus Sandmar 100mm telephoto for an Argus C3, but I didn't know that the middle element was reversed. I used it for several photos to see if the lens was any good, & discovered the flaw. I reversed the middle element & it works as designed, but I thought that the flaw photos were sort of interesting. I think there was a shim involved, also, & so I had several options of orientation of the glass & placement of the shim.

The second photo, the one in red/yellow and deep jade-green is absolutely wonderful; the last image where only the central area is in focus reminds me of Pentax 85/2.2 "soft", wide open it produces a similar effect.

That's Pentax 85/2.2 at 2.8 if I remember correctly. I love it, and is a great antidote to all modern antiseptic lenses and the images they churn out.
