With the Hasselblad 2xx cameras, e.g. 203FE, if I want to take long exposure photos, e.g. up to 5-7 hours, can I disengage the F focal shutter and use the CF and other Cx lens in B speed and just leave it open for as long as I need without worrying about the body exhausts the battery?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do that, but I don't think it offers any advantage to using the 203 on manual and B speed setting. I cannot think why the battery should preferentially wear done in one or the other situation. You do need the battery to close the FP shutter.

Thanks! Just want to confirm. I found a 203FE kit that's pretty good price, but I want the option to do multiple hours shots ala Michael Kenna

The 203fe manual says:

"Manual Mode up to 34 minutes." - obviously the timer is running

... and ...

"Fully mechanical C setting for lenses with built-in leaf shutters"

In C mode, the display flashes a "-c-" warning when you press shutter button. So as long as you have it pressed, you are drawing current. But since it is a fully mechanical mode, you can take the battery out. However, as the meter is not activated, I suspect the current draw is small (but I've never tested it).

Hmm.. look slike no one but Hasselblad SE would touch a 203FE if something goes wrong. That certainly puts a damper...

Heck, I even had the XPan shutter replaced a couple years ago after an accident. An "unrepairable" camera is scary, especially with Hasselblad's situation...

Thank you, I've been wondering about these statements in the manual too.

About service, here in NL Kamera-service.info told me the other day that they could service my 203FE, including adjusting shutter speeds, if that were to be necessary at some point. From a non-European perspective I guess that doesn't help much but I thought I should mention it.

Another friend mentions that if the 203FE electronic dies, then it should act just like a 501CM? Can someone confirms?

Thanks

As the manual says, the "C" mode is fully mechanical. With the battery removed on my 203fe, the "C" mode works fine with all my CF lenses.
