possible new way to make ground glass?

just a thought...has anyone ever thought of making a loupe-quality ground glass,then mounting a fresnel behind it to amplify the image as far as brightness goes...just something that popped in my head last night and wondered if it was possible to make it market it and maybe others like us could benefit from it? maybe the guy that makes the ground glass on this site might find this useful. just tossing this out and seeing what anyone thinks and is it possible to do. this is one of many thoughts that pass through my by brain quite frequently an thought i'd share with everyone before it passes on to idea graveyard...lol! anyway.......any thoughts..give me a shout an let me know what you think!

Yes, please elaborate.....the Speed Graphics and Rolleis came with a fresnel mounted behind the ground glass. Why is your idea different? I'm not understanding.

hello again,
i'm sorry i wasn't too clear on this...sometime this happens when i try pass an idea across. what i meant is that having a loupe quality ground glass too
magnify the image instead of using a loupe that scrathes up your fresnel lens. in that, as loupe quality galss...meaning the power of a loupe(4x,8x,or whatever takes your fancy) and have it available in say 4x5,5x7 and 8x10 to start w/ and see what it does. i hope this is a little more clear now. let me know know what you think.thanks again!

Well at first glance this would appear to be a solution until one considers the characteristics that this would bring to bear. The first is that when you magnify the total image as what you are enquiring into the economics come to bear. It is a far diffierent matter to produce an optical system the size of a focusing loupe then it is to produce and optical system the size of a 4x5 inch ground glass or 8X10 and perhaps larger.

well...it was a thought that passed through my head at the time. these were not matters that were included,but only just the thought. i just figured it might might work. it appears to be more trouble than its worth i guess. oh well, i tried...lol. thanks for your thoughts.

If you think about how you might actually build something like this you come up with........

You can't have anything flat that magnifies the whole view at once - lenses need a certain standoff to work. A 5x loupe has a focal length of about 50mm, so roughly speaking it's centre must be 50 mm or so from the ground glass when being used. Worse, if you then think about the angle of view it needs to have to see the whole screen at once, you're going to need something like a 47 mm Super Angulon XL to do the job - a tad more than most of us want to spend.
