so like a IIIG with combined RF/VF and a leaf shutter...sure...but I think I would rather have the focal plane shutter regardless.
I sometimes wonder if it is possible to improve on the Oskar Barnack design of the Leica II by designing a camera of the same weight and size (tactile handling), but incorporating a M2 style viewfinder (with 50mm frame lines only) and a leaf shutter. Would such a design be possible?

several companies made this very thing, such as Ricoh, but they didn't take off -- if you have a leaf shutter you lose lens interchangability.
Not necessarily . . . have a Google for Werra rangefinders
(Though you'd be very lucky to find any lenses apart from the standard one, it is technically possible to make, and sell successfully, such a camera).
