Remember that, despite its latitude, Madrid is about 1800 feet above sea level and it can be quite chilly in winter.

Well, based on my weather app the weather looks similar, if not warmer, than what we have in Japan, so I think I'll be okay. I'm also thinking it won't be a chilly damp as it was in Belgium when I was there (I could not get warm at all the entire time I was there, which is strange for me).

Well, I’m finishing up my 8 days in Portugal, leaving for Madrid tomorrow morning. I have to say I really enjoyed my time here, despite the almost constant rain and the unfortunate bedbug incident I had a couple days back (the swelling is almost gone now). A week was definitely not enough - I think 2-3 weeks would be better to really get to know this country. I love the laid-back friendliness of the locals (even if no one can pronounce my name correctly!). The architecture here is gorgeous, even the dilapidated buildings (which are more numerous than I would have expected). Wide angles are definitely needed here, distortion be damned. Hopefully I’ll have better weather in Spain!
