If any of the New England APUG crowd is inclined to take a road trip to Brattleboro; The Vermont Center for Photography (VCP) is hosting a Special Gallery Walkabout Event at VCP next Saturday, January 17th from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M., to coincide with its current exhibition, "The Portrait Show."
This special photography event at VCP, a Gallery Walkabout, will be a general discussion of the art of portraiture using specific works from the current exhibition, The Portrait Show, at VCP to illustrate the discipline. The discussion will be led by Michael Miller and Michael Billingsley.
Michael Miller has been a museum curator, photographer, and writer. His work has been represented by the Lallak+Tom Gallery in Chicago and Heather B. Nevin, New York and has been placed in several private collections in New York and Chicago. He has studied photography in California with John Sexton, Morley Baer, and Robert Dawson, and later with Ken Schles at the International Center for Photography in New York, where he also worked as a teaching assistant. He was curator of drawings at the Cleveland Museum of Art, collaborating with the photography curator to create installations of photographs and drawings. He writes photography criticism for The Berkshire Review.
Michael Billingsley is a Canadian photographer, film maker and educator who currently resides in Vermont. He has worked with Minor White, Chris Enos and Marion Ettlinger. He was curator of photography at several galleries in Vermont, Massachusetts and Canada and taught photography at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. He has judged film competitions in the US, Canada and Ireland. Lately, Billingsley has been making oversized images created by blending multiple digital files, combining the embracing landscape with often quirky portraiture.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Heather at 802-251-6051 or at info@vcphoto.org.
VCP is located at 49 Flat Sreet in Brattleboro, VT.
