Portra Silverfast/Negafix Algorithm

When did Silverfast last update their Portra algorithm? I'm getting magenta reds in version 6.6.2r.3a of Silverfast SE. How do people get around this problem? I had a little more success using one of the Agfa algorithms and messing with the colordisc. You'd think they'd get around to sorting the maths for the most popular films available.

I've never been that happy with the conversions using silverfast .. I found using curves to set the min/max points within the epson software provides a better result.. I'll look forward to it. At the moment I'm doing this or using ColorPerfect or Silverfast. It would be good to settle on a system that I'm happy with.

i haven't used SF in awhile, but there is a way to apply the profile, tweak it, and save it as a preset. My tweaked profiles were pretty effective. I photographed a Macbeth Color board and tweaked the profile for that then saved it and applied it to all subsequent scans from that film type.

In my experimentation with Silverfast, I seem to remember that there was an 'advanced' section in Negafix that let you set the profile manually. I'd just use that and save it as a profile. I think you might need one of the more expensive versions of Silverfast for this.

Do Calibration first - Monitor and Scanner .
Sometimes scanner needs a new Bulb.

Oh, and Silverfast isn't going to update this as far as I know. I've read that the company they used to use to make these profiles is no longer in existence. Good luck.

I use Silverfast to run my drum scanner, and I get the best results with color negs -- regardless of film type -- if I scan as a positive and use the autocorrect function to remove the color cast. I usually widen the white / black points just to give myself a little bit of editing latitude. Then once I have the TIF open in Photoshop I invert the image, run curves to optimize contrast, and then do minor color adjustments if needed (usually just minor warming or something). I find this workflow much better than using the film-specific profiles for negatives.
