Portra 800 or Kodak Gold 200 less grain?

Should I use Portra 800 or Kodak Gold 200 for less grain?

No problem - I first saw Gold 100 and wonder because it is discontinued!
I would give my soul away if this film could be avaible ! Since I shot Gold 200 at E.I. 100!
Notice : Both films are from same technology = latest high tech production with best characteristics
Kodak ever made!
I don't say films are identical - but special in regards of grain it is MORE than the same class
So Portra 400 is smaller grained than Portra800(after improvement) but the difference isn't much!
That means : Portra800 at E.I. ISO400 is hart to differentiate to Portra400 at box speed (some state it is identical).
But Gold200 is smaler grained in comparison to Portra400 (at E.I. ISO 200 it is indeed the same -
some state Portra400 is smaller grained then!!!!!)
But Gold 100 was the all time champion in regard of grain and resolution (I shot EM allways at
E.I. ISO 80 !

I would not call Portra 800 an inferior film.

If you want less grain, go for the Portra. It tends to have stronger saturation than 400 or 160 and I find the look pleasing. You also get better shadow detail.. We are comparing apples to oranges.

Oh sorry I have forgotten Porta 160......I have a biggest inventory of Fuji Pro NS 160 ..... =
No need of Porta 160 for some next years!

Kodakcolor Gold and Portra are totally diverse films.
IMO the recent Portra series films are much more 'advanced' than the Kodakcolor Gold series. In terms of sharpness, (less) grain and resolution they are superior.
