I just got a quote back from archival methods for some custom portfolio boxes for matted 7x17 and 12x20 prints. There are a few large film shooters who have expressed interest in purchasing a few of these, and if we can get our orders up to 20 boxes in each size, we get a significant price break.
I have had boxes made by this company in the past, and they are very high quality, and comparable to the 'normal' sized boxes available from Light Impressions and others.
I have sized the boxes so that the nominal film size can be contact printed and matted with a 4 inch border. They will hold 10 matted prints per box when matted with 4 ply matboard front and back. Ten prints is really about all you will feel like carrying around when they are this size.
Here is the breakdown:
Size: 15-1/4 x 25-1-1/4 x 1-3/8
Qty. 10 @ 73.50 = $735.00
Qty. 20 @ 64.50 = $1,290.00
Size: 20-1/4 x 28-1/4 x 1-3/8
Qty. 10 @125.00 = $1,250.00
Qty. 20 @ 75.50 = $ 1,510.00
As you can see, the boxes sized for 12x20 prints show a huge drop in the unit cost when going from 10 to 20 boxes. Anyone interested in participating in this sort of purchasing co-op can email me directly.
Thanks,
