Fun read, scroll up or down, I think there are 50 cameras. It also shows the MSRP back then, which shows that some of these cameras - as we know - are an incredible deal now. And others are pretty much the same price inflation not withstanding!

The Minolta TC-1 and Nikon 35 Ti's are pretty expensive! Some of the TC-1's on ebay are close to 1999 prices.
Love the camera and film ads!

I miss the old photo magazines and their reviews, articles, and such. I used to read stacks of the back issues when I was in school.

Thanks! I enjoyed paging through the ads for those shops, seeing how many are still in business and realizing how a massive publication it was.

Nice reference the last generation of film cameras.
I see the Olympus IS on the list. I had mine out recently to make sure it still works.

Using an inflation calculator, a Contax T2 today would cost about $2200. So the $1100 or so that they are going for on the used market actually is not so bad. Apart from the fact that they may brick w no chance for repair at any moment…

There was a follow up generation, the Minolta 7, Canon EOS IV, and Nikon F6 stand out in my mind. What I noticed was how much early Digital cameras cost.

Looking at the ads at the end of the reviews, I noticed THAT one that seemed to be in every magazine I ever looked at.

We meet again Dr. Winnifred Cutler.

Also the only actual review I’ve ever seen for the incredible Rollei QZ35 p&s. They mention the lens on it is better than many SLRs’ prime lenses, let alone SLR zooms.

Really its no wonder the camera industry struggled so much financially going digital. 240 for a Rebel G? That's 430 dollars in 2022 money -- for a barebones film camera that doesn't have any of the expensive innards of a digital camera.

That's how much a Rebel body costs now except now they gotta pay for a CMOS sensor and LCD screens.
