Is there a toner I could substitute for Kodak Polytoner?

I'm down to my last bottle of Kodak Polytoner. I was preparing to mix my own following Kodak's instructions but discovered that one of the required ingredients (Kodak Brown Toner) is no longer available as well.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to try substituting Kodak Brown Toner with Legacy Pro Brown Toner. According to Freestyle all Legacy Pro chemicals have "the same or similar formulations as Kodak chemicals."

The October 2009 Kodak memo indicating that the 8 oz bottles of Brown Toner were discontinued also indicated that a 1 gallon size remained available under catalogue No. 140-0928 - here is a link (see the second page - including a telephone number and email):

Freestyle offers Legacy Pro Brown toner. Supposed to be equivalent to the Kodak.
There's also Viradon New. Maybe one of those would be a satisfactory substitute for the Kodak product.
Tim Rudman's Toning Book (THE resource for toning info) also offers a couple of formulas as substitutes for Polytoner.

Good luck,

Larry

Is that a selenium / sulphur mix toner? Moersch offers a variety of similar toners.

Moersch's MT4 and MT5 are polysulphide toners while MT2 is a mix of selenium and sulphide.

You could try mixing your own Kodak T-8 polysulphide formula which is used without further dilution and treat that as the volume of water you would normally use before adding selenium toner, but I am just making a wild guess. It might work.

Yes, the MT2 toner from Moersch would be a good start.

I've also been wanting to try adding some KRST to a Thiourea solution. Anyone ever try that?

Gallon bottles of the Kodak stuff pop up on the bay every once in a while.
