Poll: How old are you LF shooters?

41. I took up LF a few years ago. Like so many others before me, I started with a Crown Graphic. The kind gentleman from whom I bought the camera met me in the parking lot at 501 McCarthy Blvd. in Milpitas on a beautiful Saturday morning and gave me an hour long introduction to the camera and the whole art of large format - right there in the Quaxtor parking lot! Kurt Leal, if you're readinf this, Thank-you...again!

I've not noticed and ill effects of religious (?) dogma concerning large format but then, those who've met me know I'm not one to conform. I'm much more likely to spit it out and try the next glass than to swallow and force a smile.

The addiction...geez, nobody warned me about that. To date, I've bought five (!) LF cameras, sold two and built three. No regrets. I do occasionally feel like I'm negleting all that lovely 35mm gear that6 I've accumulated over the many years before 4x5.

Well, I was 24 in 1978 when I bought my first 4x5, a Wista Field 45. Here is a shameless link to my website and you can read how I almost never made it into LF.

32 years old physically, 5 years old mentally (like most guys). Started with 4x5 6 years ago, 5x7 5 years ago, 8x10 3 years ago, and 8x20 two years ago.

At this rate, by the age of 38 I should be using a 32"x40".

I am 56. The 4x5 large format bug bit about 15 years ago; the 8x10 pt/pl muse seduced me about 5 years ago. No regrets, and a hell of a good way to intensely enjoy the personal offerings that life presents.

Brad there is an easier way to figure that out. You have 1's and zeros. 1x1 = 1 so you throw one one out. then you have 4 zeros, so 4x1=4, then you take and get rid of all the extras, and you are left with one zero so 4 and 0 = 40... every self respecting blonde in denial who dies their hair red, knows this. It ranks right up there with my desk top computers cup holder that doubles as a credit card slot when I purchase things on line.

Hmmm....your computer has a up holder and a credit card slot? I think you been hanging 'round one (or more?) of those IT type fellows for too long...

48, been doing it since 1977. picked up a 35mm camera and for some reason, it didn't do it for me. a month later i found an old 4x5 and have been playing with it ever since

Im very soon 50 years old and do it since 16 years with 4x5 and since 2 years also with 8x10!
And the reason for to go 8x10 all the apugers with the size does matter theory, all this sick people and I'm also sick now! ;-))))

I replied earlier, but wanted to add something. I'm 51, been shooting 4x5 about 15 years, but not seriously until the last 4 or 5 years. Frankly, I have no interest in anything larger, I find all this noise about going larger is a bunch of nonsense. The photography world doesn't revolve around contact prints nor B&W. I can get everything I want out of 4x5 Velvia. Is 40x50 big enough?
