I'm 56 and first used L/F some 36 years ago. I voted in the poll and it told me that I have already voted. Um, maybe I'm more than 56???

I'm way over in the right tail of the age distribution. My first LF camera was a 4x5 Speed Graphic (1947). In the 1950's, I was driving a 1930 Model A Ford with soft top and rumble seat (wish I hadn't sold it!).

I'm 71 now and still backpacking my 8x10.

I'm about 38 or 39. I haven't done the math lately.

198 LF shooters have voted so far. What's the percentage of our total members?

There are 2 things I want to know. First, which 2 of you remember when cars were invented?

Second, do we just drop dead in our 60's or do we switch to medium format? It would be good to know...or maybe not.

I'm 30 and just started shooting LF (4x5) today! 4 shots, indoors, and I have no idea how they will turn out - all part of the excitement I guess. I was waiting for today to vote in this poll. :D

This is an open poll, so click on the numbers and you can see a complete list of who voted in what category, and I bet you'll find a few surprises.

Yeah, and immediately it arrives you'll age by at least 50 years. I know, I know, you were born old and have been looking forward to catching up with yourself.

I just turned 50 so that makes me part of the largest age group. Its disapointing that there aren't more folks in their 20s. I started shooting 4x5 when I was in my 20s, but didn't get serious with it until in my late 30s.

Ron, perhaps its disappointing but it certainly isn't surprising. When we were in our 20s, film was the only image capture medium available. Now every kid seems to have a cellphone. I haven't gone digital yet, but I can see the appeal of low cost per shot and instant gratification. With film one has to have, um, faith.

Given all that digital offers beginners and given the decline in the number of people shooting film -- I visited the LLano, TX, Bald Eagles twice the week before last and both times I was the only person there shooting film -- that relative youngsters are still learning to use film and that some move up in format is a wonderful surprise.
