A few weeks ago, I got a bug to try making contact prints on Azo from Polaroid Type 55 negatives. Posted the first three of them last night in the Critique Gallery.

My opinion is that Type 55 works pretty good for contact printing on grade 3 Azo. I was skeptical at first because the T55 negatives are a little thin, and one does not have the visual control during developing that one has with standard film. All I did was meter at ASA 25 and develop for 60 seconds, just like all the guidence in the world says to.

My second opinion on this is using T55 allows rapid turn-around on 4x5s, cutting out the darkroom processing time. It also allows instant feed back on composiiton, focus, and exposure. Just meter for ASA 50 for the print, then slow down a stop for the negative. Pretty simple.

You can increase contrast with Type 55 by increasing the development time, if you want to try for Grade 2.

Thanks David. That's something I haven't tried yet.

Another I'm thing planning on exploring is solarizing the negative using a strobe flash unit.
