Polaroid SNAP camera and ZIP printer

Going to post about this camera. It's marketed as a digital instant camera, but hear me out..... It uses Polaroid ZINK technology which is paper embedded with cyan, yellow, magenta dyes underneath a polymer protective coating. The image is created through point (pixel) heat activation.

I admit I bought the SNAP as well as the ZIP instant printer that I've connected to my smart phone through NFC. It's a fun toy.

PS OK I can see people telling me this is a digital camera. It's technology is not like Fuji Instax technology. Mods, feel free to close this down if you feel this is a digital post.

canon also makes a small printer that works with wifi.(canon selphy)_..I saw an article with a woman photographer who used it in a remote village in Mexico so she could give her subjects a photo of themselves....it's a neat idea

I have one of those (an older one, the first one they released a few years ago.) It is a cute little toy, but the pictures are far too small and the image quality sucks compared to a real polaroid print (it kinda looks like it uses dithering to get midtones, and at a visible resolution.) Novelty wore off relatively quickly.

I bought a friend a Fuji Instax Wide as a birthday gift on the other hand, and it was absolutely fantastic, real fun for everyone. Particularly excellent when drunk or high (ahem) at parties ;-).

I bought a ZIP printer last year on Prime Day, but haven't used it too much since. Although it's fun to use and be able to give mini-prints away, in practical use it was somewhat buggy and really slow. Connecting to the printer, browsing/selecting the photos on your smart device, transferring the photos to the ZIP over Bluetooth, then the printing the actual photo... all told a several minute process. Not an apples to apples comparison, but it's nothing at all like old Polaroids, peel apart pack film, or even modern Instax.

The ZINK technology is pretty cool though, I have to admit. And I like the sticker back.
