POINT LIGHT GALLERY SYDNEY

hi there, just did a web search for POINT LIGHT in Sydney (it's a gallery, film + print teaching, basically a fine art space) and the first thing that came up was pointlight workshop.com, so I click it and the web page says" we have moved, changed name, changed location bla bla bla. Then it has a link to another photo place in Sydney. Now I know Mr. Undy and we last spoke just a few moons back and he mentioned nothing about moving etc. So I did another search with "Gallery" added and sure enough there was the ORIGINAL point light web site.

My q is, how the heck can someone use another persons name, reputation and their freaking website (with a misleading addition, ie workshops)? I shall name no names, as folks interested can find out themselves, but i sent an email to the listed e-address on the misleading web page and expressed my concerns. WTF has happened to morals in photography? We are a small community and should be helping each other (as most of us do!), not trying to rip off another persons life work and business.

I hope any one here who feels this is wrong can also send an email to this "impostor" and express there views.

just checked it out.. the only justification i can imagine is if they used to be partners and the imposter felt burned somehow, but if its just a "business" move, it seems like a dick one.

Think Negative is Enrico Scotece's business in Leichhardt. He was formerly running the workshops component at Point Light, with Gordon's blessing.

welcome, and i dont feel comfortable commenting further on the think negative/ pointlight problem, it appears to be a personal situation.

When I typed in Point Light the Point Light website came up first http://pointlight.com.au/ the second link was Dead Link Removed I don't know the personal politics behind the move of the later but equally I don't think its our business nor should we speculate. This is something between Gordon or Enrico.

I feel that much of what you say is misinformed so I’m responding to your request to clear up some ambiguous facts. pointlightworkshops was, is, and has always been a separate entity and has always been registered to my name. We changed name upon our move since there was no longer an association and informed people of the change on the website. The “misleading addition” of ‘workshops’ to the name you mention in your ‘rant’ is not misleading at all. It simply states what we did there. It was not possible anymore so we moved.

Some other posts here are correct in their limited detail, and in support to what you say: “folks interested can find out themselves”, I welcome the idea. I’m happy to speak to you in person (or anyone else) to explain what you missed in your 'rant'. We are not a small community, we are a vibrant group of minds that enjoy what we do immensely – that thing is photography. At Think Negative we help each other, we let ourselves be known, we share and show our work, and we commit to using film. We embrace each other’s ideas and creativity and we look forward to supporting and further nurturing Australian talent. It really is that simple.

Perhaps you should swing by the studio sometime, I’d be happy to meet you, bring some film and we can process it too – if you photograph that is. It sounds like you ‘know’ more than what you spin. Stop wasting your time on the internet - go buy yourself some film and take that 8x10 out where it counts! Or, in the meantime you can get off this website and search the relevant ABN’s and ‘finer’ details of the things you just can’t seem to figure out.
