Hi,

just yesterday I have received a Pentax 645M with FA 45-85/4.5:

The lens has quite some rattle in it - several parts against each other (zoom ring, focusing ring, front group) - in particular when set to either 45 or 85 mm (the front group extends most at this setting) it is quite a bit (+- 2mm left-right). I am wondering whether this is normal or not. The lens seems (no film through the camera as it arrived with 220 magazine, grrr  ) to focus correctly in manual and AF.

I guess some rattle is mostly normal, especially for zoom lenses, so I would like to ask what should one expect from this particular lens.

thanks

This may not be relevant but my 28-80mm Pentax lens for my 35mm camera displays what I think you are referring to. It appears to be a "slack fit" but delivers sharp pics. It may just be a attribute of later Pentax zooms.
