PMK Part A turned to maple syrup color

My bottle of PMK Part A has turned dark brown - similar to maple syrup (Dark Amber B-grade, as we'd call it in New Hampshire).

Is it dead, or will it still perform?

I've used PMK for as long as two years after mixing it (stored in amber glass jars) with acceptable results. I think the statement that it will keep for up to ten years a trifle fanciful, but it will certainly keep a long time.

When did you mix it?

Sounds like it may have been inadvertantly contaminated with a tiny specimen of the B solution and the color your seeing is the resultant oxidation. Takes very little for this to happen, like mixing up the caps ie. B cap on A solution or sticking the A syringe into the B soluion and then back into the A.

Got it premixed from Photog's Formulary about a year ago.

I can't see any way that I could have contaminated it.

The question remains: is it still good?

I think the only answer to your question it to expose some film and try it.

It's still good. Pyro turns color when exposed to light. Thats why it should be kept in dark bottles. I've got PMK thats been with me for 4 years (handed down to me from photographers who went Digital) and it still works.
But if you feel that it got contaminated then try a roll to see.
