Has anyone else heard the Plustek OpticFilm 120 scanner has been discontinued? I just received an email from B&H stating ->

Thank you for your interest in the following item:

Plustek OpticFilm 120 Film Scanner
(B&H # PLOF120)

You are receiving this message because you asked to be notified when this item becomes available. We regret to inform you that this item has unfortunately been discontinued. Please check back on our website for similar or possible replacement items.

That's odd. I just received an ad email from a local dealer (Vistek) announcing that they are taking preorders for a new product they will be carrying - the Plustek 120 film scanner.

I just got the same email... Curious what's going on here, as I have been waiting for more concrete info on this scanner with some anticipation.

Hopefully it's not true-- the likelihood of someone else putting out a new high quality MF scanner at this stage seems quite low.

Plustek USA voice and fax numbers are "temporarily unavailable" as of 9:47 am.

I got the same email. I went to the Plustek site. Called the numbers on the contact page - Plustek USA Contact Us | Contact Us | Plustek - a received the ominous sounding "the number you reached is temporarily unavailable" for both voice and fax. If you want one, better find where they are available and get it. If the company is dissolved I'm not sure that I would want one.

UPDATE: Called back and in fact the phone lines were temporarily unavailable. Called back and got to the voice mail tree. The operator said that it was back in development.

Based on some emails between myself and Plustek, it's an issue with a not-to-spec component that was provided by a supplier. I suspect I have a unit that's affected by this issue, though I haven't gotten specific confirmation that my issue is related to this new announcement. But I can read between the lines.

I hope that Plustek knows the S/N's of the affected units so they can do some sort of proactive repair/replacement once the component issue is sorted out....

Plustek's scanner QA and press release proof reading could both stand to be more rigorous

April 19, 2013. Recently we discovered a component used in the manufacture of the OpticFilm 120 does not meet our quality standards. This problem effects less than 10% of the scanners ...

Well, I can't find it listed on either BH Photo or on Adorama.
