Plug for PEAK DESIGN sling bag

Posted in "digital studio" because sling bags may be especially useful for DSLR kits with two lenses.



Just got Peak Design's "everyday sling" 6L, medium sized sling. Beautifully constructed.



I needed simple and seriously protective...this comfortably carries APS-C dslr with 20-40/2.0 and 55-300/4 . (multiply by about 1.5 for 35mm and plan to carry more bulk/weight than APS-C)


Sling bags like Peak's may be better than "camera bags" (or messenger bags) because they're easy to carry several ways, more compact, more weather-resistant, and more all-round protective.


Several alternative brands also look like good bets but they don't seem as simple and may not be quite as easy to carry or as protective..

I did some wandering, and as a result was reminded that we have a place for equipment reviews in the Articles portion of the site. As a result, I've moved this thread here.

I've used sling bags like this as well for smaller film cameras, and it probably would be good for my wife's Olympus DSLR or the Samsung NSX I have but haven't used much.

Have used a 5L for over 2 years - 2 camera's 2 lenses in a well-designed, well-made, protective case - and not huge.

I have both the 5L and 10L original Peak Design slings. Of the two, I much prefer the smaller 5L version. The 10L is OK, but at that size and potential weight, I would prefer a normal shoulder bag worn cross-body.

My normal use case for the 5L is when I am out using a TLR - plenty of room for the camera, camera strap, film, filters, light meter. Once I am using the camera (which being a TLR, goes round my neck), I can swing the (now practically weightless) sling bag round behind me and almost forget it's there. Mine looks a bit beat up now, but it has seen a LOT of use and still works perfectly.

I'll add that Peak's sling bag is very protective on ALL sides, is easy-access. and doesn't flop open...much better than the bicycle messenger bags Also, the very-smooth zippers are less hassle than snaps etc and will undoubtedly last forever.

I selected the black version, recognizing that grey version might might be more subtle when-carried...still, black vanishes where the grey would be obvious, such as floor-under-table-at-coffee-house.

When I (stupidly) leave this kit in the car I stick it in a flashy Trader Joes' shopping bag, assuming nobody breaks into a car to grab groceries.
