Does anyone know of any PHOTOGRAPHIC use for N-Acetylglycine?

CH3CONHCH2COOH

MW 117.11

(aceturic acid)

:confused::sad::mad:

Falling that, any other use you might suggest?

It should certainly be a solid. The MP is about 200C.

Why do you have it? It seems to be used mostly with protien synthesis.

It came out of a hologram lab.

The only thing I can think of is that it was bought by mistake... that would explain why the bottle is still unopened!

I wonder if it might increase the solubility of gelatin (gel temp)...

I had a choice... now I am thinking I should have taken the Uranium instead.

But the Golden Question is why is it given as an example of an organic solvent?

Maybe I made a mistake!

Ray - that's highly likely. I've seen many bottles on the shelves of the labs that I've worked in over the years that have never been used and most likely from the reason you mention.

I've yet to see any Uranium in an environmental lab, but I've seen lots of bottles of Thorium Nitrate which used to be used in titrimetric methods for determining fluorine before ion chromatography replaced it.

Well, since it's an aminoacid, you could get it to condense onto the terminal end of the gelatin molecule. But I'm not sure that would help like phthalation does for making modified gelatins.

humm, but I was thinking it might have an effect dissimilar to that sort of modification... do you imagine the condensation rxn might proceed under very mild conditions? Say at room temp?

Ray - I ain't no biochemist, but that condensation is how protiens are built up on organisms. But there it's done by attaching one amino acid onto a "transfer RNA" before attaching the amino acid on the the protien chain. For us mere chemists, I think this sort of reaction can be a "self-condensation" reaction. Like with the reaction to make Nylon 6. Heat, maybe some acid or base... Time to find an organic chemistry book and look up "peptide bond".

if you try it and get a goey mess, don't blame me :^)

Well Why not?

Since no one else has suggested anything- goey mess might be just what the doctor ordered!
Maybe I'll be lucky an reinvent bakelite or somethun...

Don't worry. I have no reason to blame you. You sinless devil!
