Here is an opportunity for someone to get a camera that normally costs $2000.00 for much less. This wide angle Plaubel Makina with the legendary Nikkor 55mm f4.5 lens is in great condition. "The 55 mm Nikkor lens was considered one of the sharpest and most flare-free of any produced during the analogue photography era." The lens is clean and clear with no issues, no fungus, no haze, no cleaning marks. The meter works and is accurate. The viewfinder is crisp and crystal clear, not too common for these older cameras. The rangefinder is contrasty and accurately aligned. The shutter speeds are accurate to my ear. Winder is smooth and sure with no glitches or issues. The lens carriage opens and closes as it should and locks into place with no looseness, it is a rock. The bellows look new and are light tight. The focus ring moves easily and the carriage moves with the focusing in a smooth manner, no issues. Even the foam seals inside the rear door and around the back of the camera are in good condition. There are no dings or dents and no cracks in the body, anywhere.
Why then is this such a great price? On the sides of the lens are the controls for the shutter speed adjustment and the aperture. On the ring that controls the aperture, the plastic half-moon tab has come off and has been replaced by some thin grip-tac material for a place to rotate the aperture ring. The aperture ring moves very easily so this works better than the tab used to work. I have always disliked the tabs on these Plaubel Makinas because instead of just grabbing a knurled ring to change the aperture or the shutter speed, like on a normal camera, you always had to be trying to find the 1/2 inch wide little tab to make an adjustment. With the tab gone, you simply push the grip-tac and the ring moves to the selected aperture.
Now, I'm not trying to say this is a good thing, the camera has lost any collector value that it had with the loss of this tab, but it certainly still takes amazing pictures and can be had for a super low price. The last picture in the set is the one where you can see the grip-tac attached to the aperture ring.
