Arches Platine should be available now, I bought 250 sheets two weeks ago. Of course I am in France it's just a bit faster but you should get it soon.

Hi Philippe

How does it compare to the previous batches of Platine? Have you had any problems with this new batch and which platinum process are you using? (Platinum mixed with Palladium, na2 etc...

I didn't notice a real difference compared to the one I used. I mostly print pure palladium and I use Na2 as contrast agent if I need any.
I always buy paper for several years and I let it waite for two years at least before I use it. I still have some I bought four years ago.

Thanks thats good news, i hope the samples my supplier sent are from a good batch. I bought a large order of Platine that was from the batch made last year and it all was unusable. Could you tell me the batch numbers on the paper you bought recently.

I found two "Run Number" hand written stickers on the envelop:
- S 104637 (but I think that one is on all envelops)
- 58534 (I think that's the right one)

The problems were poor dmax, also it had a kind of white speckling as if the sensitiser was not being absorbed properly, this was with and without the use of tween.

I had that white speckling problem with a few sheets I had bought of Platine. I'd never used it before and always heard it was problematic. I received several bits of advice from different people and made good prints on by doing ALL the suggestions together. They went as follows:
1) prebrush the paper with distilled water
2) brush coat (I was using a rod)
3) use PO developer at 150º F.
4) let the paper develop for at least 5 minutes (during that time I saw a few white spots and they disappeared)

Maybe just one of those steps did the trick, but I was getting frustrated and wanted to see a good print on Platine. At that time I was a Crane's user. I'm hoping it will come back. The prints i made were quite good.

Do you do anything special when using that paper as a rule?

I print Pt/Pt on Arches Platine for more than 15 years now and it's a very good paper BUT it needs:
- some warmth (at least and if possible over 20°C)
- a very good humidity level (over 50%)
if you can't have both print on a different paper.

Sounds like summer would be ideal. When it returns, I'll give it a try. It certainly is a beautiful paper and I've seen excellent prints on it.
