There is a plastic ring that goes around the barrel right at the mounting flange, It was cracked when I got it and not it is seriously broken, I could super glue the whole thing together, but that seem like a bit of a hack job, So, what is the function of the ring....dust guard? If it is just to make it look pretty, I'll do without.
The ring serves to keep the rubber in place. You can use the lens without.
It is of the clip-on type, and because it is under tension a bit, is known to crack.
Hasselblad parts are more expensive than they should be, so/but it is relatively cheap to replace.
Speaking as a mechanical engineer, I can see exactly why it failed .... less than great plastic part design and manufacturing. I suppose I should cut them some slack since they don't do too many plastic parts.
Seriously, it sounds like it not replacing it shouldn't be a problem......thank!
They do crack fairly easily, which is unfortunate. They are not difficult to replace. Cheap, however, is relative when it comes to Hasselblads. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $50 for it. I'd go right to the source at Hasselblad USA for the part. I paid a repair place for one they happened to have in stock, so I probably was gouged a bit.
