Can anyone enlighten me as to the suitability of bottles labelled as #7 for developers? I do realize that most developer bottles are #2, but I can't seem to find a 2-litre bottle made of #2 plastic. I have several wide mouth 2-L plastic #7 bottles available, which formerly contained chunky salsa.

Glass is not an option; I have several perfectly good 1.89L glass bottles (formerly used for Beau's beer) that I don't want to use. The reason for this is that I just broke a 4-L glass bottle in total darkness, full of D-23; I'll leave the rest of that story to your imagination!

The problem with coding #7 that it can be any thermoplast aside #1-#6.

Thus one actually cannot give advise.

You can also use code 3 PVC polyvinylchloride bottles.

There are several companies on the web that sell bottles of all types.

Codes 2 and 4 are recommended for solutions other than developers like fixer.

Here is what I have used for years (about 1/3 of a liter glass bottles)
Perrier Sparkling Mineral Water - 11 oz. - 24 pk.

Mix it, store it, open a bottle and use it all one shot to develop a roll. (Xtol is my main developer)

never use bottles formerly used or intented for food. the chance of confusing them with actual food in a half dark room is to great;better safe than sorryfilm or paper developers are not so good for your health!and taste terrible!

Like a chemistry lab no food or drink should be brought into the darkroom. If one wishes to eat then take a break and go somewhere else after thoroughly washing one's hands.
