For what M42 camera would you try it? I have the Planar 50/1.4 for Contax C/Y mount and the QBM mount 50 1.8. The 1.4 goes with the Contax AX and the Canon MkII, the Planar 1.8 only goes to the MkII but hits the mirror farther then 3ms,

Yes, of course there are Rokkor, Takumar and other M42 50/1.4 lenses as well. I have used most of them and they're fine.
It is just that I like what the older generation lenses do and in particular the Zeiss Ultron 50/1.8 . . . I would like to make some prints from the Planar 50/1.4, just to understand better what Zeiss produced in those years.
I was only reading about the Planar lens last night in Ivor Matanle's book Collecting and Using Classic SLRs. Perhaps some may have been made in M42 mount for Zeiss Icarex TM?

Note that the "made by Rollei" planar 50/1.4 is quite unlike the famous 50/1.8 "Ultron" you mention, which in turn is unlike the '50s "Ultron" designs by Voigtlander.
