Pit stops...

Ok, life is changing a bit for me. Jetting to Florida, St Augustine, to pick up a my new home, wife and I are tired of renting and the house in Colorado sold. A nice used 38' Holiday Rambler diesel pusher.

This is going to call for a significant downsizing so I'll be posting items to the classified.

What I'm after in this post are ideas for pit stops to stretch my legs and take a photo or two along the way.

Weather in the NW makes the easiest, shortest, and fastest northern route 'plan A' a marginal choice.

Here's the plan B route that looks passable at this minute. Preferred but maybe a 70% probability.

And here's plan C that's 95% probable with the area around Mt Shasta still somewhat of a question.

Plan C can detour via Hwy 1 from San Francisco if needed then sneak back onto the freeway at Grants Pass. This route is in poor repair on the CA side so is only an option if I-5 is snowy.

Not after long detours just interesting, there's 60 or so hours of driving to do in 5 days.

Plan B goes through part of the Red Rock areas of Moab, Arches and Canyonlands, while Plan C goes through Southern California. I love both so go out on one plan and return to Saint Augustine Florida the other way.

The return trip may happen in time but home is Oregon, it's one way for now.

I would not recommend a 38 footer on Highway One in California...especially north of Fort Bragg. I have heard some of the longer RVs scrape front and rear bumpers on dips/corners! Not that the first section of Hwy One out of SF isn't a heck of a wheel-turner!! But incredibly beautiful. Stop by Blue Lake when you are passing by Humboldt County and I'll buy you a beer. Park overnight at our lovely casino!

If the weather pushes me on to 101 you're on.

Plenty to see and photograph along either route. If Salinas, UT is a stop although the food may be below expectations for a step back in time go to Mom's Cafe. Moab and surrounds are some of my favorite sites and definitely worth the extra time. Why rush? St. Augustine has been around for a long time.

Hey Jeffery thanks, I'd be game for Mom's.

I lived in SW CO so familiar with that area and Moab. In Moab Milt's is a great place for a burger.

As to the rush, I need to be back to work the 30th.
