One of the great photographers of the twentieth century, Pirkle Jones, died recently at the age of 95. He was Ansel Adams' assistant at one time and was a truly marvelous b&w printer. Much of his best known work was of the Black Panthers during the 1960's.

A Google search will reveal considerable information including an obituary which appeared in the NY Times; additionally half a page in the LA Times was devoted to him several days ago. His work is available in Aperture and several other publications. It is well worth viewing.

I know this is an old post, but I met him in Santa Barbara about 2000. He is a very cool dude
for an old timer. and changed the way I see.
