Hi all,
I have been amassing darkroom equipment for my next hobby interest for about 2 years. Now all I need to do is build the darkroom. I studied and then worked in the commercial photo lab world for 15 years, but then computers came along and made me obsolete as a photo-compositor. Off to a new degree and subsequent job change. I am glad there is a cadre of folks who still enjoy the craft of analog and there are new converts who benefit from other's experiences. Born in Omaha, now in San Diego by way of Minneapolis and Denver.

Welcome to APUG, Julie. If you haven't already seen them, check out the following two darkroom "show-off" threads. The second is merely a continuation of the first, which just got too big to handle. Lots of good design and equipment ideas buried in these two guys...

Hello. I still work with all kinds of punch and register gear, not for photocomping but precise reproduction controls in darkroom color printing
and even numerous black and white applications.

Welcome to APUG

Hi Julie, and welcome to APUG! Good luck with building your darkroom. As others have already mentioned, there are a few threads about that here on APUG that should provide inspiration.

Welcome to APUG, from another San Diegan!

Thanks for the welcoming comments. I find myself secretly reading forum comments during my work day and mentally planning the darkroom. So naughty.

Welcome!

What is a photo-compositor?
I guess it is someone from the pre-print stage, mounting reproductions to make printing forms.

AgX, today, a photo compositor is anyone with Adobe Photoshop. Think pre-cell phone. Pre-digital.

Back after 3 years. The darkroom is done. for the most part, except for a drying rack and some storage shelves. I have a 6'x30' 316L SS sink, two enlargers, 7x10 positive pressure room with filtered intake and exhaust fan with manifold. I can proudly say I built it all myself: electricity, drain, and vent, sound, insulation, drywall, differential pressure magnehelic gauge, PEX hot and cold supply, portable AC unit and sound system. Thanks to a 3 month (f)unemployment stint which allowed me to make massive progress, I am ready to start exploring what may come. I am interested in printing existing negatives from people's attics, checking out caffenol development, wet plate, and who knows what else will...develop? -Julie
