Picture Frames

I'm trying to find frames of the type I've used in the past. These are ready-made, plain oak frames that use 4 spring metal clips on the back to hold everything in place. Glass, window mat, mounted print, backing foam-core...

Anyone use something similar and have a good, inexpensive source for them?

Also, I am curious about the frames other people use, in general.

try american frame. i have gotten something along those lines from them.
they can be made any size.

I buy aluminium mitred lengths from a moulding supplier and join them with the supplied kit which includes the springs. Then buy glass to fit.

a bit more expensive than ready made but better quality and I get to pick any profile I want and I can have them in any size I want.

sometime I'll get an underpinner (V pins) so I can use wooden mouldings.

I'm talking about frames where everything drops in from the back and spring clips run diagonally across the corners, seating into a groove in the wood. These frames require no dismantling to remove their contents, require no pins or tacks, etc. The spring pressure is against a sheet of foamcore between the clips and the back of the mounting board.

check with american framing they have something that might work. the frame comes made up in any size you like. you put the glass/plexi , window photo in place along with what ever else your using. attach some springs to the back of the frame that hold everything in place. The springs are not like the ones found with metal rails, but they hold everything in place.

light impression now has several wood frame kits available; however they may need framing points to hold everything together, i have not tried these, but have used the ones from american frame and they are easy and no fuss.

Thanks Ann. If you have a link for that item on American Frame's site I'd be grateful for it. I'm having no luck searching their site for it so far.

I wasn't clear. I know the site. I can't find the item on the site. None of my searching on their site is turning up anything like what you described. If you have a link for that item, it would be helpful.

This isn't exactly responsive, but I've been buying frames in bulk from a manufacturer in Massachusetts called Quadro Frames:

They sell clip frames that are well-made -- they sell a dozen direct for the price of one at retail. It's a small business (owner usually answers the phone), they deliver fast, and their frames are great.

They do sell conventional frames as well, but I've never tried them.

Sorry, I apologize for being particular but I saw all that and I don't see anything about springs holding things in place. Those all look like they use points. Where does it say something about springs? I may be missing it still.

call and talk to them that will be the easiest way.

each frame comes with the hardware necessary for hanging, including the "spings" that are attached to the wood frame and sits on the backboard'

the metal "spring" has a set screw that is placed in the edge of wooden frame , it easy to do and one needs only a screwdriver. The type of spring your talking about, I think, are those that are used with metal rails. I have never seen that type with wooden frames.

they do not, or didn't use framer's points, altho, you could use such if you had the tool, etc.
i have used both .
