Regarding my immanent trip to Utah, thank you guys for the advice regarding a satisfactory replacement for Tech Pan. I just completed bracketing tests using Ilford Ortho Plus Copy film; it's much better than Tech Pan for pictographs. Listen to this: I used Ilford's recommendations of ASA 80, PQ Universal 1+9 for mid-range contrast, 7 1/2 minutes @ 68 degrees F. for deep tank development. My test was a deep shade image of pine bark with dead Ivy leaves and some portions of the bark bleached from the water sprinkler. From the whitish portion of the bark and the dark crevices in the bark, the zone spread was only 1-stop. Results: perfect! Those pictograph await!
