As the title says, scored this little Nikon for free. It's not an FG, or and F3, or even an EM, but it's fancy enough for me. I already know that the mirror being locked up is due to dead batteries, so I grabbed some fresh 357's and stuck them in. Mirror didn't drop. Moved the dial to M90. Mirror didn't drop.

Pull the bottom cover, 3 screws. Remove the motor drive cycle complete brushes, one screw and BE CAREFUL. The brushes are delicate and easy to bend. Remove the motor drive disk. Remove the pivot screw and slider screw for the shutter bar and cam follower, but don't remove the cam. Soon as the bar was off, it dropped the mirror.

My camera was locked up where the shutter cam follower is pinned to the shutter bar. A little PB Blaster and some scrubbing and it freed up. Re-assemble, little dot of light grease, and good as used!

I did manage to get fingerprints all over the focus screen when I went to put it back in after putting the new mirror bumper on. That's a problem for future me, I'm gonna do the light seals around the film door next. Only took one slip up to screw it up so hopefully a q-tip and some water will help enough. Once the film door seals are done, I'll borrow an F mount lens and go play.

I use my FG-20 for a compact 35mm camera with a Hasselblad "V" lens adapter as a quick companion body, a 'just in case... " Item that is the smallest, lightest, functioning camera in my all Hasselblad kit, a CM and Flexbody pair.
