Picked up a Mamiya 7

Just picked up version I at a price too low to mention. I was told the curtain that needs to be closed before removing the lens wasn't working but I got it to work so maybe he wasn't doing it right. Also the frosted window in the middle is cracked. Is that the light meter and will it work fine even if cracked?

Congratulations on the new camera- I hope you like the Mamiya 7. The middle window is the "rangefinder illumination window," so a crack shouldn't affect anything. If you look at the smallest, leftmost window, the meter is in the corner of that.

don't think a cracked window in front of the lightmeter would affect its accuracy.

It's a great camera. Unless you got it for well under $500, I'm not jealous. I got a pretty mint 7II body for that a few years back (now since sold, but kept another 7 I have).

You'll like it. Portable, doesn't need hefty support gear like an SLR to be stable and there isn't a dog in the lens line-up. Enjoy!

WELL under. I thought because he said the shutter curtain wasn't working I figured even if it needed a $500 repair it would still be well worth it even for a resale.

precison camera does work on them if you need to go that route
