Just a nudge to get folks to consider coming to the PHSNE member's auction on Feb. 3 at 1. The preview starts at 11 and there is a "junk" table set up at that time that always has something I need, or think I need, for very short money. The offerings are mixed, and the bidding is usually ridiculously low. All in all, it's a pleasant way to spend a few hours in the company of other camera nuts, with little cost beyond the gas to get there - and the result any attack of GAS you get while you are there, of course. My favorite item in recent years was an 11x14 Century Camera in spectacular shape, complete with three backs, the original oak and iron stand and a great lens - $225.

Check here for a map. You have to scroll down for it, but it's there. Waltham High School is a few miles off Rt 95 and very easy to find.

Aarghh! I was in Waltham last weekend, and will be there again the weekend after. I think a change in plans is in the making, although I really do not need anything...

Well, every year is different. This year the big thing seems to have been Speed Graphic, Busch Pressman cameras and Graflex Reflex models in both 2.25 x 3.25 and a 4 x 5 sizes. They were pretty cheap: most went for under $100. A nice Orbit monorail 4x5 got no bidders at $250, even with two Schneider lenses in great condition. Moskva and FED rangefinders were passed up at $25 and many items with reserves well within the range of reasonable stirred not a single wave of the bidder's card. Tough crowd for making money if you were a seller.

I bought a Kodak instamatic 500, the one with the 2.8 Xenar for $5 and a few other small things, but mostly avoided GAS. No piles of old brass in funky boxes this year. The dollar table gave me some goodies, though. Best deal there? a set of Unicolor drums (one still in the box, unused) and the roller for them - $3 total.

The folks at PHSNE are remarkable and should be praised for running the fine events they put on each year. Even with a relatively small haul, I came away happy and comforted by the sight of such a dedicated bunch of film buffs all in one place. Now on to the spring show and sale in Wakefield!

I saw you buy all that stuff, Whitey

I agree, another fun auction. I got a brand new Peak grain focuser from the dollar table because I don't need another Unicolor setup. At the end, the dollar table was $1 per bag so I loaded up with needed treasures--if anybody needs Vivitar flash cords 4" long, I got 20 of them. I also put 2 Spartus TLRs that take 120 in the bag, great for canoeing (if they go swimming I bid them farewell)

It is amazing how cheap this great equipment is selling for.

It's going to become the place to be for those suffering from GAS. I was very determined to mostly sit on my hands, and only bid on things I thought I needed. As it was, my wife bought more than I did.

Dang  I wish I could have gone, but alas I had too much VPC work to do that day. Maybe I will have some free time next time around.
