Photostock 2012 - The Circus Continues!

Ah that was a long day yesterday but a beautiful drive. Looking forward to meeting everyone this afternoon. If you see an ontario plated cavalier running around the area, that's me!

Many thanks to Bill, Andrew, James, Suzanne, all the presenters and all the participants. It was such an honour to be present at the unofficial release of Marianne's book.

So many old friendships renewed, and new ones forged. Who would have thought that two kegs of Oberon would vanish so quickly?
Photostock 2013 cannot come soon enough.

I had a blast! And will be sure to come back for 2013! (And will hopefully have a 4x5 at that point).

My Fatboy, "Holga Davidson," and I made it south of Columbus, Ohio on the way home to Roanoke. During the ride I spent a lot of time thinking about what made this, in the opinion of a charter member of Photostock and attendee at every one, the best Photostock ever. In no particular order:

1. The number of new attendees who brought their enthusiasm.
2. The "keynote" programs. It was great to listen to Suzanne Revy talk about her photographs of her children.
3. The presentations of our own Mark Fisher and James Mullineaux; with James' program made even better with Xana's (sp?) comments from the model's point of view.
4. The fascinating discussion that followed Andrew Moore's excellent presentation.
5. The Oberon.
6. The behavior of a certain young woman who shall remain nameless following excessive consumption of red wine.
7. And most importantly, the selfless time, energy, and work that Bill Schwab expends.

I am certain that others of you can add to this list.

I feel blessed to have been a part of this event, and to have the friendship of so many great people and inspiring photographers. Thank you all.

Dan... I'm pleased you enjoyed my work, it was a real pleasure to share it with everyone there. I had a fantastic weekend, and I just want to thank Bill for all his hard work, I'm feeling inspired, and I can't wait to get the film I shot there into the soup!!
 
Just made it home. I had an amazing time. It was very fun and it was the most informative and inspiring event I have ever been to. Sorry, I could not be around for the some of the demonstrations and presentations as well as the late night fun. But, now that I know what to expect, I can plan much better for next year. Staying in Pellston is hell! I can't wait for Photostock 2013. Thank you Bill and everyone else for such an enjoyable weekend.

I had a great time - many thanks to Bill for another wonderful edition of Photostock. The presentations were all very inspirational, and gave me a lot of ideas. It was great to spend time with old and new friends, and see all of the outstanding work. The only bad part of it is that now I'm going to spend some energy resisting their desire to start doing wet plate!

Thanks Bill. The event certainly has expanded since my last ventures 2007-8. Great people, Great presentations, Great work, Great camaraderie, Great food. I really enjoyed the event and the people. Thanks also to you and Suzanne for the print reviews.

What an amazing time! Thank you very much Bill and thank you to all of the presenters! Burned a bunch of film, met many wonderful photographers, caught up with old friends, saw some truly incredible work, and had a butt ton of fun. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!
 
I was a first timer and had a blast. Meet a lot of great people. Hope to go again. Thank You Bill for the great job.
 
I posted elsewhere that "this year we reached that critical mass of Energy, Experience, Enthusiasm... and obEron. There was definitely a spark that really pushed this year's event over the top in terms of most modest expectations." The energy of Photostock seems to be continuing well past the drive home and the inevitable laundry that follows.

I learned so much in the presentations and discussions. I also learned (the hard way, of course) why IR photography does not favour featureless skies.

Hi All

I wanted to write a few lines to thank each and every one of you for making my first visit to Photostock (and the U.S) one of the most memorable experiences ever. As you can imagine, I was a little nervous about the trip, but these nerves were soon left behind the moment I landed at Pellston (what a great airport), where I was met by Bill, who went out of his way to make me feel at home, and wouldn't leave the Birchwood until he knew I was settled and in good company.

The whole Photostock circus is just such a magical occasion, and unlike anything happening here in the U.K. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentations, hearing Bill talk about his journey from his early days, right up until the Polymer Photogravures that he is working on today. The beautiful photography of Suzanne, both black and white, and the wonderful colour(I have spelt that right) Holga work. Mark's beautiful Lith work, The fantastic photography of Andrew Moore, and the very interesting un-missable discussion that followed, and of course, not forgetting James's presentation on working with, and lighting models. Great, great stuff indeed.

Of course it can not go unsaid that the portfolio's shared over the weekend were absolutely of the highest standard, and all so, so different. Such wonderful work, and it was a privilege to sit shoulder to shoulder with such fine photographers, seeing and learning so much from you all. I am so, so glad that I finally pushed myself to visit you all at Photostock, and I will look forward to catching up with you all in future gatherings, and reuniting with friends.

Oh, and last but not least, thank you to both Mark (Markos) and Andrew (Moxham) for looking after me and making sure I was fed, watered, and full of Oberon :munch:

Exactly! I'm reliving Photostock as I pull the rolls out of the tank after developing. It may be the chemicals but I'm getting addicted to this b/w development process I got my Tunnel of Trees shots processed tonight.
